After being soundly beaten by Washington and then losing an almost identical game at home to Kansas State, the Cleveland Stae Vikings went south to Miami, FL to play in the College Basketball Experience Tournament. The Vikes defeated Division II St. Leo 72-62, won 77-56 over first year Coach Gene Cross' rebuilding Toledo Rockets of the MAC, and held off the Sun Belt's FIU Panthers. Ryan AroneyThe Cleveland State Vikings are off to a 1-2 start during a tough opening stretch of the season. The Vikings sandwiched home contests with Oakland and Kansas State around a cross-country trip to Washington. After opening the season with a come-from-behind victory over Oakland, the Vikings are now on a two-game losing streak. It won't get any easier this week for CSU as the Vikings travel to Miami, FL for three games in three days during the CBE Classic. On the docket are St. Leo, Toledo and Florida International.

The Washington Huskies had lost to Portland to open their season; Cleveland State had beaten Oakland, who then came out and won at Oregon. So if that stuff meant anything, this could have been a good spot for the Vikings. Exhibiting the same inability to shoot from the perimeter that reared its head against Oakland, and being dominated on the boards by Washington's big strong front line, CSU was overmatched this night. They came into Wolstein Arena undermanned, Oakland's best player, Derick Nelson, out at least six weeks with a foot broken in Thursday's practice.
