When CSU's Cedric Jackson buried his 60-foot buzzer beater to upset #11 Syracuse on Monday night, it ended more than just a great college basketball game. It also marked the end of the Vikings' brutal non conference, early season road schedule. In the first month of this season, Cleveland State traveled nearly 8,000 miles-from Washington on the west coast, south to Florida and then to New York on the east coast-to battle teams from the Pac-10, Big 12 and Big East. In this column, CSU coach Gary Waters talks about the importance of scheduling in college basketball and the lessons his Vikings (8-4) have learned so far this year.

Vikings Get Set To Take On #13 Syracuse
Cleveland State, coming of a 66-47 drubbing of Marist on Saturday, will take on 13th ranked Syracuse at the Carrier Dome tonight at 7 p.m. on STO. The Vikings offense has been hot and cold all season and it was hot over the weekend after a week-long layoff for final exams. CSU (6-4) will need to continue the momentum as they look to solve Jim Boeheim's notoriously strong 2-3 zone defense. Ryan Aroney previews the contest for us and looks back at CSU's last couple games.

Butler Breaks The Vikings Hearts At The Buzzer
As good as last year's senior-laiden Butler team was, at one point ranked among the top ten teams in America, that group could not beat Cleveland State in Wolstein Arena, losing 56-52. With four of five starters and virtually all of Coach Stevens' long range firepower gone this season, Butler showed last night that the fall off will not be severe, as they gutted their way to a last second win over CSU at The Wolstein Center. Jay Pearlman recaps the tough loss for the Vikings.

Bullock A "Man Amongst Boys" As CSU Beats Valpo
The CSU Vikings came back home last night for their conference home opener, taking on Homer Drew's always tough Valparaiso Crusaders, a consistently solid mid major that is a recent addition to the improving Horizon Conference.
