Even after a brutal oh-for-Wisconsin weekend last week, coming into last night's game at Youngstown State it was all set up for Cleveland State. No, the preseason Horizon favorites weren't going to catch Butler for the regular season Horizon crown; nor will anyone else. But with Green Bay and Milwaukee both picking up losses two nights ago, the table was set for CSU to position themselves for the #2 seed in the conference tournament. Alas, it was not to be. This night we got a glimpse of the Cedric Jackson we'd hoped to see on offense all season, slashing to the goal, stealing and running, gaining confidence, even hitting from the perimeter. And Ced's 21 points along with J'Nathan Bullock's 22, resulted in team totals of 36 at halftime, and 65 for the game. Enough most nights to win in the modest-paced Horizon. But not this night in Green Bay, Wisconsin, as CSU's poor defense, particularly on the perimeter, allowed lots of guard penetration and a myriad of easy three-point looks for the Phoenix.

Ryan AroneyCleveland State is back on the road this week after sweeping a two-game home stand against Loyola and UIC. The Vikings put in two good performances last week, first dominating the Ramblers 76-50 before holding the league's leading scorer in Josh Mayo to 6 points on 2-of-10 shooting in a 79-69 victory over the Flames. This week's action has the Vikings visiting Green Bay on Thursday and Milwaukee on Saturday, and Ryan Aroney previews both contests for us in his latest column.

This was not exactly Loyola's National Championship group of 1963, that team of Jerry Harkness and Coach George Ireland, the starters on which were dubbed the Iron Five for rarely leaving the court. The truth be told, Coach Jim Whitesell's current Ramblers didn't provide much competition this night for Cleveland State, going down 8-0 at the 3:15 mark, 20-7 at the second media timeout, and 48-26 by halftime.
