Domination. That one word sums up the three Tito Ortiz Ken Shamrock fights.
Tonight, once again Tito Ortiz showed everyone that his ground and pound is a force to be reckoned with. This fight took only a little longer than the last meeting. Ortiz picked up where the quick ending second match stopped. He simply outmuscled Shamrock, getting him to the ground and then bombs away. Elbows and punches leading to the lights being turned out on a 13 year career of a UFC Hall of Famer.
Ken Shamrock was a true founding father of the mixed martial arts game. He started way back at UFC 1 in 1993. He fought many of the toughest guys in the sport and was very dominate for a long stretch of time. It was very good to see him go out with the class he has always shown throughout his career. He will be missed.
The one sight I had a feeling we would see tonight was a hug and handshake between the two bitter rivals. I always knew Tito Ortiz had respect for Ken Shamrock but he never wanted to show him because that is a huge part of his gameplan. Intimidation.
Tonight however, Tito finally said what all MMA fans knew. It was Shamrock who paved the way for guys fighting today. He also said he is a better fighter and man for stepping into the octagon with him.
All of the members of Team Punishment had a great night. Kendall Grove showed why he is an up and coming star of the sport winning in a 1st round KO of Chris Price. Matt Hamill also got a victory in a tough fough match with Seth Petruzelli. That win came via a unanimous decision.
Ed Herman was defeated by an awesome triangle choke by UFC newcomer Jason MacDonald. It was probably the most well executed choke I have seen in awhile. That fight didn’t make it out of the first round.
Marcus Davis over Forrest Petz - Submission (Guillotine choke) - 4:58 of Round 1
Thiago Alves over John Alessio - Unanimous Decision
Rory Singer over Josh Haynes - Unanimous Decision
Tony DeSouza over Dustin Hazelett - Submission (Kimura) - 3:59 of Round 1
Nathan Marquardt over Crafton Wallace - Submission (Rear Naked Choke) - 1:14 of Round 2
Matt Hamill over Seth Petruzelli - Unanimous Decision
Jason MacDonald over Ed Herman - Submission (Triangle Choke) - 2:43 of Round 1
Kendall Grove over Chris Price - Submission (Strikes) - 3:59 of Round 1
Tito Ortiz over Ken Shamrock - TKO (Strikes) - 2:23 of Round 1
Everyone knows what is next for Tito Ortiz. Another shot at the MMA king Check Liddell. I can’t wait to see it in December.
