Oscar De La Hoya (37-4, 29 KOS) vs. Ricardo Mayorga (28-5-1, 23 Oscar De La Hoya wants to go out a champion.
The Golden Boy has had a very successful career and plans on adding another belt to his collection tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. His wish of winning another belt has to go thru an arrogant, yet not so skilled, Ricardo Mayorga.Oscar has had a great career, fighting all comers, likely having already secured a spot as a Hall of Famer. Lately, his focus has been on his promotion company and not his own fights. The hand picking of Mayorga could be just want the doctor ordered. In my opinion, this will be the former champs final fight. He claims to want and fight pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather in a few months but I don’t see that ever happening. So why not find a bigger name fighter and beat him up to end your career? That is exactly what is happening this weekend. A win here, and this could end up beign Oscar's last fight before riding off into the sunset.Mayorga has made a name for himself because of his reckless style and his antics outside of the ring. Inside the ropes he is a run of the mill average fighter. He has lost two out of his last three fights, getting beaten up pretty badly by Cory Spinks and Felix Trinidad. He has been taunting the Golden Boy for weeks. He has disrespected him and even brought Oscar’s wife into his pre fight hype. He told him to make sure he gets some action from her the day of the fight because he plans on killing him with his fists. When De La Hoya is motivated he is hard to beat. He has been training for months now and looks to be in tip top shape. He is angered by all the ranting and ravings of his opponent. I see him taking the fight to him and paying him back for all the insults leading up to the fight. Mayorga will be way out of his class come Saturday. I don’t think we will see a lot of counter punching going on. This is going to be an old fashioned street fight, and that is the only way De La Hoya can be beaten this weekend. However, I don’t think that is at all possible. The skill level is very far apart and it will be on display at the MGM Grand.I plan on seeing a bloody Mayorga going down and going down hard. De La Hoya TKO.
