Browns Joe Thomas in High-Priced Company
Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas finds himself in some pretty good company as he made Forbes’ list of the world’s 100 highest-paid athletes during the 12 months between June 2011 and June 2012.
According to the site, Thomas made $19.8 million last year - $19.3 million in salary/bonuses and $500,000 in endorsements from such sponsors as Nike and PepsiCo - good for No. 67 on the list.
Thomas is only the second offensive lineman in NFL history to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first five seasons. He is the only Cleveland athlete to make the list, which is topped by boxer Floyd Mayweather, who earned a reported $85 million by fighting twice in the past year.
Mayweather bumped golfer Tiger Woods from the top spot. Woods, who had been No. 1 on the list since 2001, ranks third this year with earnings of $59.4 million.
Thomas was one of 30 NFL players to make the list.
