Sullinger Going Pro
Ohio State forward Jared Sullinger is NBA bound.
The two time All-American announced at a press conference yesterday that he will forgo his junior season to enter the NBA draft. Sullinger made the announcement days after leading Ohio State to its first Final Four appearance since 2007.
"Once we got to the Final Four, we were trying to win it,” Sullinger said. “But unfortunately, we fell short. I feel at peace with the decision I'm making."
Sullinger’s decision comes as no surprise to Buckeye fans. The 6-9 sophomore is projected in the 8-13 range in this year’s draft, and with the injury problems he suffered this year it makes sense for him to move on.
Sullinger helped orchestrate a dominant two year run for the Buckeyes. With Sullinger, Ohio State posted back to back 30-win seasons, earning 65 victories total during his two years in Columbus. Sullinger averaged 17 points and just under 10 rebounds per game for his career, and his low post scoring ability combined with decent shooting range on the perimeter makes him a valued prospect for NBA teams.
Ohio State coach Thad Matta -- who joined Sullinger at his press conference -- gave an endorsement for one of his favorite players, “The best attribute Jared has is that he’s a winner. He just wins.”
