Hitting The Fan Archive
Around the Farm: July 12
Bryce Stowell, RP-LCC: 1 2/3 IP, 4 K
What a difference a year makes. At this time last season, Stowell and his triple-digits fastball were rocketing up the Indians minor league system, laying waste to hitters along the way before finishing the season in AAA Columbus. This season, he’s thrown a total of 16 2/3 innings between low A Lake County and short-season Mahoning Valley. They’ve been good innings, as he’s allowed just 3 runs and struck out 23, but it’s still disappointing that injuries have limited him after it looked like he would be an option for the big-league bullpen this year.
Joe Gardner, SP-AKR: W (6-6), 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 3 BB. Yesterday’s start was a microcosm of Gardner’s season; ok, but nothing special.
Cory Burns, RP-AKR: S (25), 1 2/3 IP, 2 H, K. May 28th. That’s the last time the Aeros closer gave up a run, earned or otherwise.
Beau Mills, DH-AKR: 3-4, HR (7), 3 RBI, 2 R. Mills has now homered twice in his last three games to go along with 5 RBI and two BB.
Nick Weglarz, LF-AKR: 0-2, 2 BB, RBI. Even when he isn’t hitting, Wegz is still on base. His OBP is a remarkable 212 points higher than his AVG (.417-.205)
Juan Diaz, SS-AKR: 3-5, 2 R. Steady but unspectacular, the 22-year old Diaz is now hitting .255/.308/.364 on the season.
Kyle Landis, RP-KIN: IP, K. Landis has given up just 2 ER in 21 1/3 innings of work for the K-Tribe out of the bullpen this year.
Jeremie Tice, 1B-KIN: 2-3, 2B, BB, K. Tice had two of Kinston’s four hits in a 9-1 loss to Frederick yesterday.
Carlos Moncrief, RF-LCC: 2-4, 2B, R. Moncrief is hopefully heating up a little bit, as the last 3 games have seen him go 5-14 with a 2B.
LeVon Washington, CF-LCC: 1-4, 2B, R, 2 K. Washington is in the midst of a 5-37 month of July, and yesterday’s 2B was his 1st XBH since June.
Jesus Aguilar, 1B-LCC: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, K. BBJA has a .910 OPS on the season for the Captains, and just turned 21 a couple of weeks ago.
Alex Monsalve, C-LCC: 1-2, 2 BB, R. After walking 15 times in April-June, Monsalve already has 5 in less than two weeks here in July.
Gio Urshela, 3B-LCC: 2-4, RBI. Urshela is hitting a solid .293/.293/.366 in his last 10 games, but still needs to work on his approach. On the season, he has 44 K against just 11 BB.
Jake Lowrey, C-MVS: 2-3, 2 2B, RBI, 2 BB, R. The Johnny Bench Award winner has an impressive .273/.364/.545 line in 20 games for the Scrappers.
Cody Elliott, CF-MVS: 3-3, 3B, BB. Elliott is hitting just .238 with a .607 OPS for Mahoning Valley, but when you go 3-3, you make ATF.
