Columbus dominated in their businessman’s special yesterday, while Akron got throttled. Kinston got washed out, and Lake County left the tying run on 3B when the final out was recorded in a 1-run game.
Scott Barnes, SP-COL: W (5-1), 7 IP, 3 H, 8 K, 2 BB.
Barnes has been solid all year, but has been even better of late. He has not given up more than 2 ER in a start since May 8. In his 6 starts since then, he’s thrown 29 2/3 innings and given up just 9 ER while striking out 40 and walking 12. He struggled initially in Columbus after being promoted from AA Akron in mid-April, but has really settled down and is rising up the prospect rankings with every start. Barnes was acquired from San Francisco in exchange for Ryan Garko, and could prove to be another example of the Indians stealing a quality young player in exchange for a veteran with little or no value to the club.
Jason Kipnis, 2B-COL: 3-4, HR (6), RBI, BB, 2 R. Kip’s HR was an opposite field shot, and is now up to .284/.360/.470 on the season with 6 HR and 34 RBI.
Jared Goedert, 1B-COL: 2-3, HR (2), 3 RBI, BB, R. Goedert is finding his power stroke again, and now has 5 HR in 72 AB between Akron and Columbus.
Joe Gardner, SP-AKR: L (3-5), 2 2/3 IP, 8 R (4 ER), 7 H, 2 BB. Gardner has had some brilliant starts this year, and he’s had some clunkers. Three of his last four have been of the clunker variety as he’s given up 22 R (14 ER) in 11 2/3 innings.
Eric Berger, RP-AKR: 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, K. Berger was unable to provide any relief yesterday, as he had his worst outing as a professional.
Brian Price, RP-AKR: 3 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 K. Price was finally able to douse the flames for the Aeros yesterday, turning in some badly needed scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Jordan Henry, CF-AKR: 3-5, RBI, R, K. Henry is sporting an odd-looking .267/.383/.319 line on the season for the Aeros.
Kyle Blair, SP-LCC: L (3-4), 3 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 5 K, 4 BB. After back-to-back strong starts, Blair struggled last night, failing to get out of the 4th.
J.D. Reichenbach, RP-LCC: 4 1/3 IP, R (0 ER), 2 H, 4 K, BB. The Wehrmacht came in to settle things down in relief of Blair, and gave the offense a chance to get back into it.
LeVon Washington, CF-LCC: 0-2, 3 BB, SB, 2 K. Washington didn’t get a hit, but still managed to reach base three times and swipe his 7th bag on the season. His OBP in his last 10 games is now an impressive .419.
Jesus Aguilar, 1B-LCC: 2-4, R, 2 K. After struggling through May with a .672 OPS, BBJA has been warming up of late. He’s posted a .353/.371/.618 line in his last 10 games, with 2 HR, 2 2B and 5 RBI.
