Aroiund the Farm takes a quick look at how some of the prospects throughout the Indians system performed in yesterday's games. As always, the positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterdays game.
The Clippers split a doubleheader yesterday, while Akron broke out their big bats and pounded Altoona. Kinston won on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 9th, and Lake County used a strong starting pitching performance to pick up another W. All in all, it was a pretty good day throughout the system yesterday.
Kelvin De La Cruz, SP-ARK: 4 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 8 K, 3 BB
In between starts last week, De La Cruz was working with pitching coach Tony Arnold on his balance point and driving off his plant leg. He's been showing good velocity this year, as he's finally back and throwing with full confidence after his elbow injury that he suffered back in 2009. De La Cruz admitted that he was a little hesitant to really cut it loose last year, but is throwing with no restrictions in 2011. He has 50 K in 35 2/3 IP to go along with a 3.28 ERA. If he can just cut down on the walks (26 so far this season), he will be back to being an elite pitching prospect in the organization.
Jenmar Gomez, SP-COL: L (3-1), 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 2 BB. Gomez gave up all 4 of his earned runs in his 5th and final inning of work, including a 3-run HR by 1B prospect Lars Anderson.
Scott Barnes, SP-COL: 4 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 3 H, 4 K, BB. Barnes has 27 K in 28 2/3 IP for Columbus, but has had problems with the longball. He's given up 7 HR since getting called up from AA Akron, and has a 5.97 ERA.
Josh Judy, RP-COL: IP, 2 H, 2 K. Yesterday was Judy's 3rd straight scoreless outing for the Clippers. He has 20 K in 17 1/3 IP on the season.
Cord Phelps, DH-COL: 2-6, HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 BB, R, 3 K. Phelps has 4 HR and 13 RBI in his last 10 games, and is sluggling .658. His approach has suffered a bit with the increase in power, as he's walked 4 times and struck out 12.
Zeke Carrera, CF-COL: 2-6, 3B, 2 BB, 2 R, 3 K. Carrera has hits in 9 of his last 10 games, and is batting .333/.395/.564 in that span. Interestingly, he has just 1 SB in his last 10 games (15 overall on the season).
Lonnie Chisenhall, 3B-COL: 2-6, RBI, BB. Chiz has been scuffling a bit lately, as he's been below his season averages in his last 10 games with a line of .243/.333/.405.
Nick Hagadone, RP-AKR: 2 IP, 2 K, BB. Hagadone has a 1.83 ERA, 25 K, 8 BB in 23 2/3 IP for Akron this year. It's only a matter of time before he's in Columbus.
Kyle Bellows, 3B-AKR: 2-4, HR (1), 6 RBI, BB, R. Bellows has struggled with the bat this season, and is sporting a .196/.268/.304 line this season. Yesterday was his 1st HR of the season, and he also collected 6 of his 15 RBI.
Tim Fedroff, LF-AKR: 3-5, 3B, 3 RBI, BB, 3 R, K. Fedroff is in the midst of a nice little 10-game hitting streak. He's hitting .452/.478/.571 with 3 2B, a 3B and 11 RBI over that span.
Jordan Henry, CF-AKR: 3-6, 3B, 3 R, K. Henry also has a 10-game hitting streak going. He had one hit in the first 8 games of the streak, but is 5-11 in his last 2 games. He's put up a line of .310/.408/.405 throughout the streak.
Drew Pomeranz, SP-KIN: 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 6 K, 3 BB. Not his most dominating start, but Pomz left the game with a 3-2 lead and a chance for a W. His ERA on the season sits at 2.09, and he has 54 K and 15 BB in 38 2/3 IP.
Adam Abraham, 3B-KIN: 3-4, HR (4), 2B, 4 RBI, R. Big day for Abraham, who's now at .241/.362/.398 on the season.
Roberto Perez, C-KIN: 2-4, R, K. Perez scored the game winning run last night for Kinston. He's a gold glove caliber catcher, but is hitting just .179/.333/.231 on the season.
Casey Frawley, SS-KIN: 0-2, RBI, 3 BB, 3 R. Despite not recording a hit, Frawley had a big impact on last nights game. He scored 3 runs, and had a walk-off walk to win the game for the K-Tribe in the bottom of the 9th.
Steven Wright, SP-LCC: W (1-0), 6 IP, H, 3 K, 3 BB. No less than Tom Candiotti himself helped Wright work on his knuckleball this spring and pronounced it ready for action. In his last 2 games, Wright hasn't allowed a run and has given up just 4 hits in 12 IP.
LeVon Washington, CF-LCC: 2-3, RBI, 2 BB, SB, R. Washington with his 1st multi-hit day as a pro, and he's now hitting .258/.343/.323 in his 8 games for the Captains. He has hit in 7 of his 8 games since coming to Lake County from extended spring training in AZ.
Jesus Aguilar, 1B-LCC: 2-4, RBI, K. BBJA has hits in 8 of his last 10 games, but is on a bit of a HR dry spell. He's gone 9 games without a HR, but still leads the team with 7 on the season.
Ronny Rodriguez, SS-LCC: 2-4, 2B. Yesterday was Rodriguez's 2nd game with Lake County, having been moved up from extended spring training earlier this week.
