Wire Hitting The Fan Archive Around the Farm: May 17
Written by Al Ciammiachella

Around the Farm takes a quick look at how some of the prospects throughout the Indians system performed in yesterday's games. As always, the postions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's games.

Quick one today, as Kinston was the only affiliate that didn't get rained out yesterday. At least they won, taking down Lynchburg 4-3 at Historic Grainger Stadium.Holt6_783x800

Tyler Holt, DH-KIN: 2-3, 2 2B, RBI, BB, R, K.

Holt was almost all the offense that the K-Tribe needed yesterday. He's up over .300 on the season (.303) and is currently riding a 9 game hitting streak. During the streak, he's gone 13-31 (.419) with 3 2B, 7 BB and 5 K. Holt is a speedster who profiles as a true, old-school leadoff hitter, as he has a lot more speed than pop (1 HR this year). He's showing a solid approach in his first full season of professional baseball with a .410 OBP. He's stolen 9 bases and been caught 4 times so far this year. Holt has been the most consistent hitter on the Kinston roster this season, and is the only player currently hitting over .300. The 10th round pick out of Florida State last year is more than living up to the expectations that were put on him prior to this season.

  • T.J. House, SP-KIN: W (2-4), 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 4 BB. Not a dominant start by House, but he showed some solid escapability only allowing 3 runs despite 12 basrunners in his 6 IP. I think I'm contractually obligated to tell you that he "scattered" 8 hits.
  • Tyler Sturdevant, RP-KIN: 1 2/3 IP, H, K, BB. Sturdevant has allowed just 2 ER all season, and has 20 K against just 6 BB in 21 1/3 IP. Quietly turning in a solid season for Kinston.
  • Preston Guilmet, RP-KIN: S (6), 1 1/3 IP, H. Guilmet has yet to allow an earned run in his 13 2/3 innings of work this season. Like the closer before him in Kinston, Cory Burns, Guilmet gets it done with less than stellar stuff but a deceptive delivery where he hides the ball well from the hitter.
  • Justin Toole, SS-KIN: 1-2, 2B, 3 RBI, SB. Nice day for Toole, who has fallen off a little after a hot start. His overall OPS is .723, but in his last 10 games it is just .681.
  • Tyler Cannon, 2B-KIN: 0-3, K. Cannon was off to a sizzling start in Lake County, and has found the Carolina League to be a bit more of a challenge. It's only been 5 games, but Cannon is 3-15 (.200) for the K-Tribe with 3 BB and 4 K.
