Wire Hitting The Fan Archive Around the Farm: April 24
Written by Al Ciammiachella

Around the Farm takes a quick look at how some of the prospects throughout the Indians system performed in yesterday's games. As always, the positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday's game.

Quick recap today, with just two games played in the system yesterday due to the Easter holiday. Both Columbus and Kinston won, while Akron and Lake County had the day off.

Tyler Holt, CF-KIN: 3-4, HR (1), 2B, RBI, R, 2 SB, CS

The K-Tribe collected a total of four hits yesterday in their 3-2 victory over Myrtle Beach. Three of those hits belonged to Tyler Holt, including his first professional Holt6_783x800home run. Holt was the Indians 10th round selection last year out of Florida State. and is off to a solid start in 2011 after dealing with some nagging injuries late in spring training. He's posted a .259/.348/.362 line so far with 8 stolen bases against just 1 CS. Holt is a solid defender in CF with good speed and a little pop, and will be a player to watch in Kinston throughout 2011.

  • Zach Putnam, RP-COL: 2 IP, H, 3 K, BB. Putnam's ERA is down to 0.87, and he has struck out 8 and walked 2 in 10 1/3 IP.  Putnam could make it to Cleveland this year if Chad Durbin continues to struggle, but it's way to early for that kind of move.
  • Josh Judy, RP-COL: S (1), IP, K. Judy hasn't been quite as consistent as Putnam, but he's another option for the major league bullpen from the right side.
  • Cord Phelps, SS-COL: 2-4, 2B, R. Moved down to 6th in the order for a rehabbing Jason Donald, Phelps just keeps on hitting. He's 6-12 in the past four games after snapping out of his mini-slump, and I have a hard time thinking that he's not a better option at 2B right now than Uncle Orlando.
  • Travis Buck, RF-COL: 1-2, HR (1), RBI, BB, 2 R. It's only two games, but Buck has pounded AAA pitching since being sent down.
  • Brett Brach, SP-KIN: W (1-1), 5 IP, ER, 4 H, 5 K, 3 BB. Brach has given up just 2 ER in his 10 IP for Kinston this season. Yesterday was his first start for the K-Tribe after pitching 6 shutout innings in a spot start for the Aeros.
