Meet The Writers
Shapiro Isn't Crazy
When Mark Shapiro agreed to a contract extension last week that binds him to the Indians organization until 2012, there were probably more than a few Cleveland fans that wanted the Indians' GM to undergo an immediate psychiatric evaluation. It would give him two decades with this organization, where he'll continue to battle with the "financial limitations of this market". Erik Cassano says Mark Shapiro knows exactly what he's doing though. And that despite what most would think ... the Indians GM job is one of the best of all in baseball.

Spring Happenings: With Shapiro Extended, Who Is Next?
Back in town after a full week in Winter Haven covering the team for us, Tony has all sorts of nuggets of goodness in this week's edition of "Spring Happenings". Tony got a chance to rub elbows with several members of the Indians organization last week, and senses that with Mark Shapiro now extended through 2012, that more contract extensions are coming. Tony also hits on a myriad of different topics from spring training in this weeks column as well. A great read.

Much of the talk this spring surrounding the Indians has been about the pending free agency of three members of the team: Travis Hafner, C.C. Sabathia, and Jake Westbrook. In Paul Cousineau's latest piece, he completely and thoroughy breaks down the Indians payroll situation, laying out a case where two or three of these players could be resigned. An expansive and interesting piece from Paul this morning ...

Q&A With Fox Sports Dayn Perry
Dayn Perry is a highly regarded baseball writer who writes for Fox Sports and Baseball Prospectus. Lastoria recently caught up with Perry and talked Tribe, asking why so many national writers expect big things from the Indians. Dayn answers several questions regarding the Indians from the minors up to the players on the major league team. A great read, and thanks to Dayn for taking the time to stop in and share his thoughts on the Indians.

An Amazing Coincidence
In Gary Benz's latest, he takes notice of some lazy reporting by the various newspapers Indians beat writers. In particular, Gary notes how several different outlets all picked up and ran with a near identical piece on C.C Sabathia the other day. Gary sees this latest "coincidence" as a microcosm of what's happening to the print sports media, whose reporting never gets any better while the competition's does daily.
