santana KCBaseball's a funny game. The Indians, who entered Sunday's game averaging just 3.28 runs per game since the All-Star Break, exploded for 15 runs in four innings to salvage the finale of their three-game weekend set with the Royals. Every Indian in the starting lineup, except for Lou Marson, who drew three walks, had a hit. Every Indian except Casey Kotchman scored a run and everybody except Michael Brantley and Marson had a RBI in a 15-4 Tribe rout.

David Huff and Royals starter Jeff Odorizzi, making his Major League debut, both pitched terrific over the first five innings. The only blemish off of either starter was a third inning solo home run from Royals catcher Adam Moore, his first in the Majors since September 7, 2010. The Indians had just two hits off of Odorizzi and the Royals had just two hits and the one run.

wfny bagThere may not be a clear winner of the Ubaldo Jimenez trade, as both Alex White and Drew Pomeranz have gone through growing pains and struggles, but there is a clear cut loser. Jimenez didn't make it through the fifth inning en route to losing for the 17th time this season and the Indians offense was shut down by a lefty yet again. The 5-3 loss guarantees the Indians of their third 90-plus loss season in the last five years.

The script has been written so many times in the second half that monotonous is an understatement. After the Indians failed to score in the first inning, they came to bat in the second inning with a deficit. Jimenez has now given up 23 runs in the first inning of his 31 starts. As a unit, Tribe starters have allowed 112 runs in the the first inning this season. It was a leadoff walk that led to the two runs, as Jimenez walked Jarrod Dyson, who then stole second. Alcides Escobar promptly doubled him home and Billy Butler drove him in one batter later. The Indians are just 6-41 this season when trailing after the first inning.

wfny bagLike the Indians have so many times in the second half this season, they lost on the road, falling to the Royals 6-3 in the first game of their final road trip this season. The Indians failed on most of their run-scoring opportunities while the Royals cashed in most of theirs and that was the difference in the game.

The night had a promising start for the Indians as they had runners on second and third with one out in the first inning after back-to-back singles from Shin-Soo Choo and Jason Kipnis and a sacrifice bunt from Asdrubal Cabrera. After Carlos Santana struck out, the Royals opted to walk Michael Brantley and go after Travis Hafner. The move worked in their favor as Hafner grounded out to end the inning. Justin Masterson's outing started well, with three groundouts in the first inning, but the second and third innings were a different story.

kotchmanwalkoffThere's one thing the Indians did by beating the Twins on Thursday afternoon. They did avoid a sweep, but that isn't what we're concentrated on right now.

Minnesota Twins - 3

Cleveland Indians - 4

W: Esmil Rogers (3-3) L: Anthony Swarzak (3-5)

What we really care about is the fact that with one more win, which shouldn't be too hard given that there's 12 games left and half of them are against the Royals, the Indians will avoid 100 losses.

Oh yeah I know, what's so significant about 100 losses? What is the big freakin' deal man?
