HS Wrestling Post-Season and Brakeman Forecasts

Along with several other sports that grab my attention, HS wrestling is held in personally high regard and NE Ohio is still one of the wrestling hotbeds in the country, even if the rest of the state has slowly, but surely, caught up. This is especially true in Divisions II and III

The three week schedule of post season wrestling in Ohio starts with sectionals across the state on Friday.

Among the most reliable sources to get a feel for the upcoming tournaments is the annual Brakeman Wrestling Forecast. This is the 37th consecutive edition and Brian Brakeman covers wrestling in the state of Ohio slavishly and as a labor of love. He is a treasure trove of knowledge and respected as an opinion leader within the sport.

Good luck to Tony Jameson of Austintown Fitch going for his 4TH state title in 4 different weight classes. If he wins the title he will become only the 16th wrestler in Ohio High school history to accomplish that tremendous feat.

Jamo, as expected, joined the Four Title Club. He had a great career at A-F.

Powell looks like he still has a couple potential contenders for next season in Ague (103) and Miller (215). Both just narrowly missed placing and are returning for next season. Either way, getting five wrestlers to state in Ohio is a great accomplishment.

Jamo will probably redshirt next season and Jaggers will probably wrestle his senior year at 149. It just depends on where he and Palmer will be most competitive next season. Both are in the Top 10 currently, so that means they are both in the equation for the NC at their weights.

I doubt if Ryan would have recruited Jamo to throw him in right away. He'll have four good years to make his statement for the Bucks. Either way, to be recruited by a Holy Grail school for wrestling like Ohio State (BTW, every Big 11 program is a Holy Grail program where wrestling is concerned) is something that's noteworthy. He should be a good one at tOSU.

I coached against Brett for a few years in PeeWee and 9-10 baseball, he was a lot of fun. Some folks didn't like him, but I always thought he was great. Good to hear from afar that he's running a good program.
