New Logo ... Thoughts?

I'm in the process of creating a new logo for the site based around "TheClevelandFan.com".

This is what we first came up with and now I gotta tweak it. I like the concept, still unsure on the color scheme and font.

Thank you. I actually proposed some color changes (make the state red, burst and lettering blue) and also want to see a couple different fonts.

Can't use the team logos for copyright purposes ....

You really need to loose your mind to notice this but, try. Look at the southeast border of the graphic for the state and tell me it dont look like a side profile of Alex Reiger from Taxi.

I want something good. Something long term that I never have to change. These are just the first prototypes ... still trying to think of which way to go with this.

Then you can alterante the 4 colors throughout the lettering in some way.

How about an Indian wearing an orange helmet dunking a buckeye into the "v" in cleveland with a net like the old cavs uniforms. If you did not use the wahoo, etc. I think you could get away with it.
Browns backers use the Browns helmet in there logo.

I like the theme of the football, baseball, and basketball "exploding" out of Cleveland. I prefer it with a red state of Ohio.

I like the lettering/font in the version of "theclevelandfan.com" that has the foam finger for the "d" and all lower case letters. I would put that immediately below the logo.

I also came dangerously close to failing art class, so my opinion should be given a correspondingly low weight.

Doc, that is some sick shit. The logos for some reason don't show up on my work PC, so I have been thinking about what you could be seeing for the last couple hours until I got home. No idea how you can pick up on that! He is Swerbs all time hero and I think he had that drawn in like that.

Why not just use both logos together? Put the one with the foam finger in it as the text as the bottom of the state logo. Then, you always have the luxury of using two logos later on....the main one, or a short one with just the web address with the foam finger.

Overall, I don't mind the latest one you posted with the lettering and the colors. I like the clean look of the logo, but feel it's just missing something small...like a drop shadow or some sort of overlay to make it look a little more slick. I don't know...that's just me.

I like the "Exploding Ohio" logo, though I'd suggest a black line outlining the visible are of the state, differentiating it from the #D shading along the Ohio River area. We know it's Ohio, but the balck outline would clearly let people know that the state is raised. I do this because some friends I showed it to asked what the red blob was. Once I explained they understood. It doesn't have to be a thick black line, just something to clearly show what the 2D overlay is.

I also like the foam finger and think using both would be cool, though I'd suggest not using the foam finger to represent the D in Cleveland. Again, I think it's best to make sure the lowest common denominator gets it. I'd keep the foam finger but put the D in there, sticking the finger between the D and the F (sounds like instructions on how to give a prostate exam, I know).

need the explosion at all...

Did you try the classic view of Ohio (map style)? The angle Ohio is at
makes you wonder what it is for a second.

No, CBS is too far removed. I checked into that.

I'll tell ya what, I love that bottom picture of Cleveland. Only problem with making it part of the logo is, we're working that into a new front page banner along with the quarter of Sizemore, Tressel, Kosar, LeBron.

That's my thought as well regarding the skyline....although, Cleveland fans typically know the skyline. Be careful though, I believe sportstalkcleveland.com uses a skyline for their logo.

Also, as an aside comment....we have current faces of Sizemore, Tressel and Lebron as the faces of their teams (and deservedly so)......yet for the Browns we have someone from the late 80s fame. Anyone else find that sort of comical and a good representation of how bad the Browns have been? They have NO ICON.

I think the closest the Browns have right now is KW2 or Wimbley. I'd consider using Winslow to represent the Browns as he comes to play everyday and is current.

I agree with Winslow as the face....possibly Wimbley or Sean Jones could be if they have great campaigns next year. Rich, any thought of adding Winslow, Jones or Wimbley as the "Face" instead of Kosar? I've actually gotten some feedback on that how Kosar is used.....

Who doesn't love Kosar ? Yet, all the other people in the logo are current figures and so should the Browns player.

Still a huge Winslow fan and I understand the backlash you may get from using him. So why not Wimbley ? He's a up and coming stud. The guy had 10 sacks in his rookie season. Jump on that band wagon now.

Overall the site is looking great.

And again, it would be different if the Browns had a face, but they don't. Winslow, Wimbley, Sean Jones made strides this year, but all have just one season under their belt.

And prior to the Betrayal. Kosar's hasn't been a Brown for about 13 years. I doubt any 18-20 year old fans coming by the site would feel much about Bernie. He wasn't exactly coming off fantastic seasons at that point. Eric Metcalf was in Cleveland more recently than Kosar.

Even from the strong period in the 1980s, there are not a lot of guys that people identify with anymore. Bernie sticks out somewhat but why not Slaughter, Langhorne, Newsome, Minnifield, Perry?

I understand that there's not a lot that has been good since The Return, but there's no sense living in the past. If you want to live in the past then use Jim Brown, Otto Graham, Lou Groza, or Leroy Kelly instead of Bernie. At least those guys won some titles.

We have some visitors too young to remember Kosar, and some old enough to scoff at using him over Otto Graham or Jim Brown. But for the majority of visitors, the run in the mid to late eighties is what they remember most fondly from this team, and Bernie was clearly the face of those teams.

It just looks sad to me. So many current Cleveland players vs. one who hasn't been with the Browns in over a decade. I'd personally prefer nobody up there and an empty uniform, but that's me.

I'd be interested in having Sean Jones, Bernie, KW2, and Wimbley on the poll and seeing if Bernie still holds up. He probably would, but Cleveland fans are often nostalgic. Prior to LeBron we probably would have stuck Mark Price on the banner. The Tribe has had a good stream of talent since the early 90s so that's harder to pick out.

I just find it sad and figure if people pine for the old days then they might as well pine for the Browns that actually won titles.

Well, if you are not going to change the front banner, may I suggest the actual Browns sub-page?

Right now, the 3 guys high-lighted on the page with pics are Frye, Droughns and Andra. I'd seriously consider removing Frye and putting in Winslow....taking out Droughns and putting in Sean Jones.....and then it is up to you whether you keep Andra, or put in Wimbley.
