How come theres not a Nascar/Indy forum?

Unread postby SteelersStillSuck » Sun Feb 17, 2008 4:55 pm

Nascar is the second most popular sport in the country now! I don't see why theres a reason not to have a board to discuss it on here, unless theres not an audience for it?

Just have never had any demand for one. This is actually the first time it's ever been brought up.

I am not a NASCAR fan, but my wife, daughter, and myself picked cars, not drivers to win today's race. Today's Plain Dealer had the lineup for todays race with the picture of each car, and we made our choices. My daughter, who is 4 picked the M&M's car, my wife picked the Target car(her favorite store), and I chose the Red Bull car. We actually watched the last 20 laps or so. I am far from a fan, but this was fun for us. My Daughter's car finished the best out of our picks. (I think)

I think it's simply that there is no compelling Cleveland-type tie to NASCAR. There are no drivers from Cleveland. There are no events in Cleveland. The Indy-car event is leaving Cleveland. So there's no tie-in for the group that nominally came together to discuss things that are interesting because they're from around Cleveland. (I understand that OSU is not in Cleveland, either, but anyone from NEO acknowledges there is a following.)

First let me say I am not a huge fan of racing (dad was) though I did watch the Daytona 500 race.

However Nascar's Dave Blaney is from Hartford in northwest Trumbull county. His dad was a dirt track legend, and the two boys Dave and Dale became Sprint Car big shots on the Outlaw circuit. They were also a helluva tandem in basketball I think winning a state title for Badger. Maybe they just went to state, I can't recall. Dale Blaney was, to my knowledge the only guy from Trumbull county to get drafted into the NBA after a nice career at WVU. (Lakers?)

Those of us from around Warren consider ourselves from Cleveland once we get away. 50 miles isn't that far these days.

He has moved down to the Charlotte area (like they do), but still is an active owner of a popular race track up there (Sharon Speedway).
