GBN Updated Mock Draft 1/20

Unread postby swerb » Fri Jan 20, 2006 3:29 pm

GBN is my favorite draft website, they just unleashed their latest 1st rd mock. Have the Browns taking OT Eric Winston from Miami Flo. Hawk #6 to the Raiders (seems like a lock unless GB bites at 5), and Holmes and Youboty in the back end of the 1st rd.

Bush, Leinart, Young appear locks to go 1-3, with the only question being which QB New Orleans and new head coach Sean Payton will take.

Should the first 11 picks unfold this way, Browns would likely choose between the three tackles in the tier below D'Brick, and LB's Greenway from Iowa and Ryans from Bama.

This website will feature OBSESSIVE NFL Draft coverage from the day we go live on Feb 1 ...

With Baxter coming back, Cutch signed, and Bodden re-upped ... I'd be really surprised to see the Browns go CB 1st rd, and even more surprised to see Williams slip.

LT or front seven. Gotta be one of those two IMO.

100% agree. Gotta be a LT, D-line or LB.

Russell is a bum
Whitner in the 2nd is fine also.

Bodden had a very good year. The secondary was statistically one of the tops in football, though that was somewhat a biproduct of people running all day on the Browns.

Big things will be expected of Baxter. They do need help at safety. I like Crocker, would like to see Russell gone. Bush from Texas will be tempting, just can't see them going safety 1st rd.

Also, don't forget they have Antonio Perkins as well, who Savage mentioned specifically as a guy he expects more of next year, and to compete for that 3rd/4th corner spot.

Thats a possibility, though I don't see it happening. Team, especially Savage, views Baxter as the teams best CB, and it's impossible to have too many good CBs. A great DB gives you more value at CB, and the team is high on Baxter.

Only way I could see them moving Gary to CB is if Jimmy Williams were indeed to slip, and Savage goes strictly best player available.

Jones has been a big diappointment, and was relegated almost solely to special teams this year.

He's struggled recovering from getting his knee cut on, and struggled with his coverages. He and Brodney Pool will both compete with Crocker for starting spots, and the team will likely bring in a couple other guys at safety to compete as well. Russell ... up in the air whether he will be back or not.

Browns are likely to use some of that 25 mill under the cap to target a veteran safety that can help support the run.

Jets could look to move down

Unread postby yogi » Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:16 pm

I think its a real possibility that the Jets will look to move down. They are going to be cap strapped and my not be able to afford a #4 overall pick.

That being said what'll it take to swap 4 & 12 and who would we take? We really have no trade bait on the roster so the cost would be draft picks. A second rounder this year and next get it done?

who would we take?
D'Brick? or Hawk? or ?

God, I would love to have that dilemma. They are clearly the top two players on my personal Browns board. Two guys I got to see play often this year, and two guys I'd love to have on my team.

Draft Pick Value Chart says that we'd need to give up a late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder in addition to #12 to move up to #4.

Thats alot to give up for a team still littered with holes and lacking depth, but I do it with a smile to land one of these two.

#12, a 4th, and our 2nd rounder next year for #4? I do that, but I don't even know if that gets it done. Alot depends on who emerges from the combines as the Next Big Thing. Could be a name other than Hawk or Ferguson that teams will be fighting to deal up for.

Given the fact that we have generally been so bad with our first round picks and that we have more than a few needs, what about the notion of trading our first round pick for several in the later rounds?

I'm all for filling needs, and I understand the OL issues, but the front 7 on D is just (if not more) as pressing.

My call - bite the bullet - Trade UP with Oak and take Hawk. Immediate impact on the front 7 issue and you bring a local boy home. Address tackle in the second round and the rest of the OL in FA.

I have heard LeCharles Bentley is very interested in coming to Cleveland. I know we have Andruzzi and Coleman at the guard position, and there is still some love for Faine, but does anyone think they make a run at him?

Those guys are on crack if they think the first WR in the draft will be selected at number25. I am not sure if Holmes will be #1 coming out of the combine. I expect to see the NFL become enamoured with some dude out of nowhere that runs a sick 40 and has a great combine.

nope

I think it's entirely likely no WR will go in round one. Denver has 2 picks near the end of the round. That's the only spot I could see one go.
