Released by Houston, available on waivers (probably will clear) and then likely as a FA. Apparently, he has this stellar resume going this season:

According to ProFootballFocus.com, Reed ranked 73rd out of 85 players at the position.

A 2002 first-round pick out of Miami, Reed missed the first two games of the 2013 season recovering from a hip injury. In the seven games since, he had 16 tackles, no interceptions and didn't defend a single pass. Two weeks ago, he lost his starting job to Shiloh Keo.

So, there's the possibility he's just done. But if not, you pick up exactly what the Browns D needs badly - a safety that can actually cover and make plays.

Not sure what it hurts to let him clear waivers and see if he's willing to sign a one year contract - worst that happens you just cut him.
It's only progress if you eventually get somewhere.

Tee hee.

Like I said, if you determine this guy's done, then pass.

But he was still somewhat effective as recently as last year. I haven't watched him enough to know if he's totally toast or not.

I do believe had he anything left the Texans keep him. But sure, run him up and down Mt Bellifuck. I see your point of no harm.

He's been making noise the past few weeks about playing time and this week said the team was outcoached. So he might not be worth the trouble for a fading team even if he can still play in certain packages.

I doubt he has anything left in the tank. If he does he will be a Raven by the end of the week.

Reed is a smart man. He realized the Texans are not going anywhere this year so he figured he will make some noise, get cut and get picked up by a playoff contender.

Ravens already said they weren't interested.

He wasn't playing much, and bitched, once the Texans season went to crap, they realized he isn't in their future, especially for 5-6 million. Guy can probably still play, and I bet if the Texans were on a 6 game winning streak instead of 6 game losing streak he'd be a Texan still today.

How much sense does it make to pick up Reed when Kerry Rhodes has been sitting out there all season with apparently no interest? Wouldn't a rhode shave been a bigger upgrade than Reed, especially since we've apparently moved beyond tanking?

If the guy could still play, he would still be a Raven.

That shouldn't matter, but I guess it does. I can't explain the guy's continued unemployment any other way.

He gets unemployment? Hell why would he even want to play now...

I'm not saying it should matter either, but it obviously does. Rape, kill, beat up your baby momma, drop the n bomb at a country concert and you're all good. Possibly be gay and you're banned from the league.

I'd line up Reed against Ward and ______, ________, _________, (insert name of our others) and if can beat any of them in a foot race...why not?

....Too late Jets just signed Ed.
