Campbell hurt...Weeds back at the helm. Un-fucking-believable.

/Just as the announcers say, "They need some stability at QB."

That last Raven drive illustrates perfectly the soft underbelly of our D. Gibson blowing the coverage and then Robinson isolated and exposed.

That last drive by the Ravens epitomizes our D for the season. It's good, but it isn't special by any means. A special D gets a stop on that drive and really sends home the point for the team that they can close the door for a win.

That could have been a message sending stop, instead, SSDD, allowing a meh Ravens team to hang around.

This is really weird.

Campbell is bad. Really bad. But he's making this team look not just competent but good. Not great either, before someone says I'm overstating it. Just good.

This makes me marvel at how incompetent our previous FOs must have been to have failed so badly at addressing the QB position that a bad QB is this much of an improvement.

It's truly astounding.

I don't know why you kick the field goal there. Wouldn't it have been better to have Campbell run around for 10 seconds and throw it out the back of the end zone? Leaving them 7 seconds to go 50+ yards?

I mean, it worked. And the hex is released- first win over Baltimore in forever. But still, the odds of a KO return are greater then handing the ball over with less then 10 seconds inside the 5.

I know we won, but there is sooo much room for improvement. Campbell was behind on guys all game. He really didn't play well and we still won.

(Mystery draft QB>Hoyer>Campbell>>>>Weeden<my cat + "a few playa's here and there")/CHUD = a really good team next year. At least that's my formula.

PFT just did their "What we learned" post, and the one block was sub-headed "Why was Brandon Weeden ever the starter in Cleveland?"

That pretty much sums it up.

This forums culture is funny to me.

I wouldn't tell you the Browns are a good team yet but they are damn sure not a bad one without Weeden. And while some recent top picks struggle, have busted or are gone the last 2 FOs have put some real players on the field. It's actually happening before your very eyes but some seem to not want to take the journey. When you're mediocre after the crap we've seen the leap is in fact quantum.

The better team won yesterday. And this is a better team. A much better team. Not far from good without wholesale changes and they have resources for wholesale changes up the dupa.

Some y'all are gonna grumble through the miracle and that's too bad.

Sucks to be you .

This team is probably 8-8 if JC is playing on out. 9-7 isn't crazy talk either.

Getting to 8-8 at this point would be more a product of our schedule. Our division blows and we play Jacksonville. Bmore is meh, Pittsburgh sucks and Cinci is just OK (they're overrated for sure).

I wish I could have seen Weeden's face when he came into the game to the chorus of boo's and expletives. He most likely looked confused because he always thought that the back up QB was the most popular player on any team.

I've been watching this year, jb. I've seen what the FO has been doing, and the "playas" that they've brought in. The gaps on this team are lessening, and the quality of the players is increasing.

With competent QB play (read non-Weeden, although you can give him credit for most of the Buffalo game, although that was mostly due to the pick-6 and punt return TD), this team is 4-1 with the only loss being against undefeated KC by 6. The team's buying into Chud, the FO seems competent (and fleeced the Colts for that pick for Richardson), and we know that they'll look for a QB in next year's draft, which is stacked in the first round.

As long as Campbell's not injured the rest of the season, I'd think we'll finish at least 7-9. And you know what, I'd be happy with 7-9. I'd be ecstatic if that 7-9 meant that we beat Jacksonville and the Steelers twice. That would make for a successful regrowing season- improvement while reloading.

Here's the thing.

The Browns are now 4 - 5.

We get a bye week and 2 games vs the Inbred, Cincy, J-ville, NE, the Jets and da Bears.

7 - 9 is conservative if Campbell holds up. Bare minimum stuff. I'd put the same odds on 2 wins as I would 6 wins. J-ville would struggle with bama and The Inbred are just flat out awful and a perfect matchup for us. Pass rush + Haden on Brown = pain.

NE & he Bears are bad match ups for us unless the blitz is clicking and I sure as hell ain't skeert of the jets.

BTW - check out the D's yard per play. It's for real no mtter how much people want to act like every week some team in the NFL plays Aaron Rogers.

Yep.

We've been bad enough for long enough that a new regime getting 7 or 8 wins in Year 1 is a necessary Step 1 for a real turnaround, a la Marvin Lewis & the Bungles.

Too many guys have seen too much to buy in after another here-we-go-again 4-5 win season.

Campbell is still meh but a damn sight better than Weeden. Still not going to win a game for you. So gonna need the D to play well that game.

The Defense looks decent against bad offenses. They looked good against the Chiefs (16th points scored, which is generous), Ravens (22), and Cincy (14). They looked OK against Miami (19) and Buffalo (21). They looked meh against Minny (17). They looked like steaming poo against Detroit (6) and Green Bay (3).

So, to predict their final W-L, look at the offenses they play:

Cincy (14)
Pitt (25)
JAX (32)
NE (9)
Chicago (2)
NYJ (27)
PIT (25)

No fucking way they beat NE or CHI (provided Cutler is back), no fucking way they lose to JAX or PIT twice (chalk one up as win for sure), so that's 2-2. The other 3 games are probably toss-ups, so that puts them at 7-9 or 8-8.

PS - the Jets play bad/good every other week, and unfortunately the week they play the Browns is one of their "good" weeks.

I'm not missing out on anything, THIS isn't the team we're going to be seeing moving forward, long term as they turn the corner.

There's only 1 QB who has a snowball's chance in hell of being on this team next year, and his dad doesn't make soup. That guy STILL isn't guaranteed anything, and very well might not be the long term foundation at QB.

This team while now "capable" will look very different with an upgrade at QB.

Does if feel good to not be the doormat of the division, sure. But the fact that our division sucks is what adds the glossy sheen to what YOU see right now.

And this is what I'm talkin about.

"Meh" used to kick the Browns around. Meh used to circle the Browns game for homecoming week.

Meh was an aspiration. A vision of complete mediocrity miles away on the horizon sailing the seas of rudderless suck.

We are now Meh. Meh is a Great Leap Forward.

First we take Manhattan. Then we take Berlin.

You don't go from abject hopeless rudderless suck to the 85 Bears overnight, but there is a path to get there.

For some y'all to miss out on understanding the path and enjoying the journey is a damn shame for y'all.

I'm not missing out on anything, THIS isn't the team we're going to be seeing moving forward, long term as they turn the corner.

Much of the core is here. They are playing on Sundays in 2013.

The DL is set. The OLB's are set. The ILB's will be new. 3/4s of the starting DB's
probably set.

OL IDK. Thinking as many of 4 could be swopped. RB LOL. 1 new WR, TE is set.

Which is why Jammies gave the keys to the first yahoo in his office with a song and dance, while Captain Cost-Plus brings in a guy with nearly twenty years in the front office business.

Butch Davis, Phil Savage, and Eric Mangini were all HMFIC of Lerner's NFL franchise. Reflect on that for a moment.

Agreed, but we all have witnessed just exactly how significant a viable upgrade at QB can change a team.

Said it before, this team right now is like getting drunk with your friends.

You know when you wake up in the morning, you're going to regret it, but in the short term? Give me another Labatt Blue please, and let me put some bucks in the jukebox so I can sing along to "Wonderwall" while intoxicated. Hey are we going to Sheetz later?

In the back of mind I keep thinking, "Damn..we're playing ourselves out of drafting a good QB this year, Tampa/Jax is going to c-block us from that", but then on other hand "tired of sucking...This team needs to start winning damnit. I don't care anymore..let's get try to get that playoff spot"

If true, when did this process begin? Because I cannot believe it was in place when Butch Davis was here.

Butch was a holdover from Al.

His match made was Policy. Policy decided on Butch.

Agreed. Jimmy hasn't done a damn thing but eaten when The Man served and liked it. Just like his predecessor.

So Collins being some marketing / MBA flunkie and Banner being Lurie's right-hand / hatchet man has no bearing on this discussion?
