Here's the thing with Rock.

In the way that we see it, the Van Halen's, Aerosmith's, AC/DC's, etc of the world are extinct. You could also toss the Soundgarden's, Alice In Chains', Guns N' Roses in that pile too.

Hard Rock as we once knew it is pretty much dead, and went either scream-o or really terrible regurgitated crap that is "Breaking Benjamin", "Stone Sour", "Five Finger Death Punch", and other stuff that WMMS/WRQK/WONE likes to pretend is somehow relevant in the eyes of the public. (Spoiler: It's not).

Now does that mean Rock is dead? No, it's just chilling at Lollapaalooze and other Indie hotspots. It's not "Hard Rock", but it is "Rock". Much like in the 80's there's quite a few artists who to seem to mirror artists like "The Police", "Peter Gabriel", and "R.E.M.". M83, Phoenix, Justice, The Black Keys, Arcade Fire..just..I can keep listing them and you'd get the point. Those bands are still very much relevant, and the chances are that much like the aforementioned list of groups their music will age very well.

We just really don't have the Hard Rock voice any more. Whatever happened during the Bush Years killed that, and killed it for good.

I have to legitimately wonder how bad WMMS/WRQK's ratings are. I don't really know anyone who's all excited to hear "the new cut off of three day grace's new album!", or what whacky (lame) funny (unfunny) Rover (idiot) stunt (desperate plea for ratings) is up to.

If you're going to terrestrial radio for your music then I don't know what to tell you. You'll never find rock and roll that way. Even if RnR is on life support, it still exists, it just won't come up and slap you in the face anymore

I listen to Satellite/Spotify/Pandora.

About the only terrestrial radio worth a damn is 91.3, and 87.7.

I'm just amazed the other format is still alive in some aspects.

Rock and Roll just lost a founding member. RIP Lou Reed, surprised you lasted this long. You were a legend.

Been listening to The Velvet Underground all morning. Plan is to listen to every album in order then on to solo stuff all day at work.

PS - fuck Nico.

Hiko just hates women whose demise was by bicycle

Ironically I was listening to Transformer on Saturday while doing some work at home. I hadn't listened to that album in nearly 10 years.

Those last two. Every song that featured her singing makes me cringe.

Since she can't sing.

I thought Lou Reed died? Who'd I miss?

I liked some of his stuff, but if he's not from NYC he's a footnote.

Sitting here watching Smashing Pumpkins on Palladia (love that channel, and AXS). There is a band that bucked the trends and made it big. I would buy a ticket to see them live.

As for new groups, I was really digging this, until I heard the rest of their fuckin songs. If they kept this edge I would say RnR the way I see it is still alive.

I'm a much bigger fan of his wife's stuff. Loved her work from the 80's. One of the best live acts I've ever seen, but more performance art than rnr.

Rock N' Roll will never die as long as Clutch lives. Other bands like The Sword and Doomriders are also faithfully carrying the torch.

But he was, so he's not? You could say the same thing about many celebrities who are inextricably tied to their birthplaces. Can always count on jb to rear his contrarian head.

The Sword - my nephew's 2nd favorite band (his favorite is Baroness) - he's been to about 10 of their concerts and has played me some of their stuff. Not bad at all.

Baroness is pretty good, i'm not totally in love with their vocals, but i'd pay to see them. The Sword is heavily influenced by Game Of Thrones.

Prime example......Just love the groove.

Tell him to check out Acid Bath, they only released two albums because their bass player was killed by a drunk driver. But those albums fucking rock.

Kat.ph or http://kickass.to/ both take you to Kickass Torrents, much better than the Pirate Bay, no magnet link only. For movies, anything by YIFY is the best bet. KAT is also much faster than TPB in removing bunk torrents.

Edit: BTW if you're new to to torrents, make sure you get PeerBlock and open it before Utorrent/Bittorrent. It'll block any unwanted peers, botnets, and media protection companies like Trident Media Guard. If not you might get a letter from your ISP warning you to stop. I've got TWC RR and apparently they don't give a shit. And just to be extra safe, make sure your antivirus is up to date and scan all torrents before opening them.

I've been torrenting a long time. I haven't used anything but uTorrent. PeerBlock sounds like a great idea.

Listening to their first album now, it's good. Reminds me of Black Sabbath some.
