Weeden v. Foles

Unread postby leadpipe » Sun Oct 20, 2013 4:47 pm

Holy Christ. After watching Nick Foles for the better half of three hours meld into the first half a dozen passes by Weeden, I'm startin to reconsider my thoughts on the forward pass. These guys make it look HARD.

Ground and pound. 2 and a half at a time.

The only ball Weeden has thrown with touch all year made it nice and easy for the DB to pick.

If I'm sittin' below Norv at Lambeau, I'm lookin' for another seat.

Yeah this is beyond ridiculous anymore. I don't care what anyone says, the inability of a Qb/offense to stay on the field will bring a defense down a notch. Our D is not this bad, but they will not get the change to play stress free and pin their ears back with Weeden at the helm.

At some point, for the morale of the team you have to bring in Campbell, regardless of him being similar to Weeden.

That Eagles game was a tough game to watch. I eventually flipped back to the Bengals game.

This game hasn't been any easier to watch.

Brandon Weeden is not good at footballs.

And we're probably going 5-11 again.

Which leaves me wondering: should we curse Weeden or Hoyer?

Stuff the ballot box to get Brandon Weeden to the Pro Bowl, because:

1) That would be hilarious

2) Fuck the Pro Bowl

He's not just bad...he's HORRIBLE. My fucking cat is a better QB than this joke. I don't understand how bad Campbell can be that they don't make the switch.

Unless they are in the TANK. Which is more and more what this is looking like.

Well, they probably are and should be. I can't imagine a Jason fucking Campbell wins you more than one extra game anyway. With no QB on the roster and no QB available and the D starting to show signs of disinterest and a running game that couldn't scare a butterfly, this team is toast anyway.

Make a bad season count for once.

That's because of one reason.... it is.

Seriously, hep me out here.

I am having a damn near impossible time thinking one ONE classic drop back style rookie FA who has made it drafted since 2010. Who am I missing? has to be someone.

That's what running does. It makes the D have to at least respect SOMETHING other than a young QB's limited passing ability until they learn the pro game. Running ability allows them to do something positive when the game is too big for them.

With the rookie salary scale, it may be time to go back to the Steve McNair style of QB development made impossible via the cap.

Starting to think Weeden was only good in college because he had Blackmon to throw to. Weeden completed 750 passes in 2010-11. Blackmon caught 30% of those (232).

Now, I'm not 100% sure Blackmon caught every single one of his passes from Weeden, but there were less than 50 passes completed by other dudes at Oklahoma State those two seasons.

Yeah, until we have to watch Jason Campbell play.

"Hmmmm... are we sure that Weeden didn't just change jerseys...?"

In my rankings article for tomorrow, I suggested they should just go with Guest Star QB for the rest of the season, just pick up a different QB off the dung heap each week and throw him out there. Flynn, Vince Young, Tebow, Jamarcus... what's Jeff George doing these days?

This is actually a great idea. Like Saturday Night Live, only more depressing. Which guest hosts would your producer want to book? Only 10 games left so chose wisely!

Vince Young
Matt Leinart
Tyler Thigpen
Byron Leftwich
John Skelton
David Carr
Trent Edwards
Charlie Batch
John Beck
Caleb Hanie
Mike Kafka
Tim Tebow
JaMarcus Russell
Stephen McGee
Graham Harrell
B.J. Coleman
Jordan Palmer
Pat White
Nathan Enderle
John Parker Wilson

Survive your first start, get a 2nd.

It's sad how much more entertaining the rest of the season would be if those guys were taking snaps again. They'd almost certainly all get killed, but hey maybe next week's guy!

The scarring is too fresh to include Charlie Frye, but I found it interesting to learn that he's a high school offensive coordinator in Florida, under HC Kenard Lang.

Well, we want to go with name guest stars so our Neilsen ratings don't go down. So...

Vince Young vs. the Chiefs!
Byron Leftwich vs. the Ravens!
Pat White at the Bengals!
Charlie Batch vs. the Steelers! (prodigal son returns home storyline)
Tyler Thigpen vs. the Jaguars! (hard to not sweep the ratings this week, so pick a lame stand-in)
Matt Leinart at the Pats!
David Carr vs. the Bears!
Trent Edwards at the Jets!

And, for the season cliffhanger...

Tim Tebow at the Steelers!
It's only progress if you eventually get somewhere.

That's to the point of why it was stupid to draft a statue in the first place.

"Classic Drop-back passer" Has been replaced by good athlete that can throw the ball.

Because the athletes with marginal passing skills are faring as well as the classic drop back passers.

But, athleticism has pretty much become a prereq at this point, unfortunately for Weeden, so is thinking fast, acting fast and delivering on time.

So, I have zero interest in the statues, and very little interest in the Vince Youngs of the world that are never gonna pass the ball well enough to be effective.

My god I found Weed's twin. He was in a Vikings costume last night.

I'm convinced it's not concussions that are going to take pro football down. It's that fucked up CBA and lack of practicing. I've seen better tackling in a youth flag football game.

Freeman is a good example of what happens when you just take a street FA and throw him in as starting QB. You have a better chance winning with Weeden or Campbell.

But since I'd rather be entertained than win at this point... let's see if ol' Spurge is ready for a glorious return.

Bleh, just seems like hell regardless.

Look..just don't screw with the draft next year. If you absolutely must, and there's an offer on the table for a first? trade Josh Gordon. You can at least come up to me next may, and point to the three firsts we have that would allow us to move up and play a trump card on any jerkass team that wants to move up in the draft.

"but SSS, we don't have receivers! the new QB won't have recievers to throw to!"

If you can get a franchise QB, he'll make practice squad scrubs look like Jerry Rice at times. Ask the Packers this past sunday. Hell ask the LIONS. Not saying Stafford's a franchise guy, but I'll be damned if Joseph Fauria didn't look like a damned pro-bowler.

Tired of this. Tired of the Weeds, McCoys, and other idiots we've trotted out since '99. Tired of the excuses each have given.

Get me a franchise QB, and let's start to enjoy watching football again.

Calm down boyz.....we are good position with 3 wins and <3 more on the horizon.

Teddy ......Hundley & Taj are trending down although all 3 better than what we got.

Here's hoping we get Mariota. Any of these 4 can be the ONE.

As Erie pointed out there ain't no Luck so we're going to have to "rely" on the braintrust.

From my room at Holiday Inn Express..........one of those 4 has to be there.

I stand firmly behind Brandon Weeden, Christian Ponder, Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman and Blaine Gabbert. And we can play tug of war with the powerful throwing arms of Tannehill, Locker, Manuel and few others in the middle. :thumb up:

Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, Ryan Mallett, and Jimmy Clausen request that you stop being such a jerk with your make-believe "hype machine."

:thumb up:

Of those you mention, Locker's situation is the only relevant comp. Highly rated guy who saw his stock plummet before being a Top 10 pick again somehow.

Still, I now request that you stop being such a jerk with your reminders of us really being stupid enough to draft Brandon F'ing Weeden who we didn't even grade as a 1st round prospect in the MF'ing first round.

Oh...I'm not saying the hype machine only lifts up the sinking or drowning. I'm saying that specific high tide lifts a shitload of ships. Not all of them, but many. It's raising of the SS Locker, SS Gabbert and SS Ponder being the most powerful example. Basic point being that by the time the Combine and Draft roll around, many, many, many people will forget about the past college season (or, worse, tell you it means nothing at all) and focus on those crisply thrown 30 yard comebacks against no coverage and no rush. That's as much a guarantee as death and moscratcher saying something stupid.

Still, I don't know why you feel a need to criticize that Weeden pick just yet. How long you gonna bang that drum?

What I'm saying is I don't think the hype machine generally lifts the sinking & drowning. If prospects like Hundley & Boyd take a tumble, I think it's unlikely to save them. (I don't even think it saved Locker; that was more an out-of-left-field draft day surprise.)

But someone like Derek Carr?

Yeah, your hype machine just might bump him up high enough to replace those sinkers.

Garappolo is my spring hype candidate.

Boyd is my slide candidate.

There is no reason for Hundley to come out. So he won't. Teddy & Mariotta will go in the top 4.

Hey, what did I do? How'd I get thrown into this?

Besides, this is all going to be moot when the FO trades Gordon and picks for Eli Manning.

Then I'd be in the top 4. :salute:

You know, the Giants are probably going to draft ahead of us. And they are one team not looking for a franchise QB. Not with the 9 figured they have tied up in Eli...

Chip's a dick for not giving him a shot at 8.

As though Nick Foles has anything better to look forward to in his career.
