I'm done with you now. It's like talking to my 3-year old when he's throwing a tantrum.

I didn't take any shots at you either, you just got pissy when I didn't erase a quote that included something you said. I cleared that up. You still couldn't let it go, called me a dick, and now compared me to a 3 year old. I'm not angry, but I'm not going to take shit from you either.

You're Mr. Fantastic Fan, or you're not. I don't really care. Like I said before, If you've got an issue with something I actually said, and not something you imagined up, maybe I can clarify.

Cobb vs Salazar on Wed night, Yardbarker says it's a sellout.
"Cocaine is a hell of a drug" - Originated from a famous skit in Dave Chappelle's "Chappelle's Show". The skit would portray Rick James, usually high on cocaine, preforming doing crazy and stupid things, such as smacking Charlie Murphy in the face. Rick James would frequently explain away his actions by saying "Cocaine is a hell of a drug".

This thread is another sliver of gold.

Greinke greinkeing, pine tar huffing, four separate arguments, Alex Cobb-ophobia.

Love it.

when did Cobb become '99 Pedro Martinez? Did I miss something this season?

If they win tomorrow, which all timer(s) will this team see in Boston?

If the Indians are patient when Cobb throws his slider they should be okay. If they start flailing when that thing dives away from the lefties, it could be a long night

No reason to worry. Corn's already out of season in Ohio.

Also, if you have to tangle with a cobb, it's preferable to do if face to face, rather than from behind.

Cobb's changeup is truly a plus pitch. Interestingly, the Indians lead Fangraphs's run values against changeups this season. So his strength apparently against ours. He's been really good since coming off the DL, but he has struggled with control all year long pitching from the stretch.

With the bases empty, Cobb's K/BB is 4.04. With men on 1.86 and with RISP 1.43. The table setters in the inning will be the keys for the Indians. If the Indians get pull happy, it'll be a long night. If they hit it where it's pitched, they should have success.

Fun fact: On a bet in 1988, Kirk Gibson swallowed whole an entire ear of corn. Had he failed to do so, Darryl Strawberry would have strapped it on and gone all regular season on his ass.

OK, there's some comedians here who need a little heckling

Cobb bummed us over 7.innings this season allowing just 4 hits
Post ASB he has a 2.47ERA holding hitters to a .219 clip
he went 7 innings allowing just 3 hits in his last starts
In September he was 3-0 and he has only 1 loss since April
only 13 homers allowed in over 140 innings, additionally only 45 walks to 136 Ks
He has been slightly better on the road this season that at home.

Yeah, I worry as our offense can be stifled by a lot worse pitchers

So, what you're saying is that the last time we came across Cobb we got assaulted in the back of a Volkswagon.

Sounds like it might be a bumpy ride tomorrow night. I hope our guys can take it and keep on pushing through in the end.

This is great! I already feel like part of the Cleveland Fan family. My comparison of Perez and Howell was an attempt at humor (a poor one, apparently). I think Howell was accused of scuffing baseballs with pine tar, not huffing it. And while Giambi's numbers this year weren't nearly as good as Gibson's in '88, his homer against the Sox last week was at least as important as any other hit by an Indian this season, and it reminded me of Gibson's shot off of Eckersley.

Let me offer my expert opinion here (it matters it really does!). The Indians are either gonna win or lose this game and one of those things is gonna happen. That's what's gonna happen here. Analyzing corn cobbs, Dominican Jaret Wright's ain't gonna change anything. It's gonna be a W or an L.

I'm guessing skates can come up with this......maybe there isn't enough info to really say and maybe I'm imagining things....

Seems to me that while the Indians did struggle pretty often against arms they hadn't seen before, they had more success the next time.

People keep inviting me over to watch the game tomorrow (I don't have a TV). I can't go to a bar because I'll be kicked out for screaming too loud. And I'm not sure that my friends who invited me over understand that I'll be a lunatic walking a razor blade for 4 hours at their house in front of children. Any advice?

Hmm. Not really sure how to filter that information. We did better against Cobb the second time we faced him last season, but we're clearly a much different team this season.

Not sure how much watching video helps, but they have been able to study his tendencies for two days. See what he likes to throw in which counts. How he attacks 0-2 and 2-0. Like I said, approach off this guy is to look to go center/oppo. You try to pull that changeup, you roll over on it.

Lefties fared significantly better against him than righties, so we'll see if that helps us since the only righty in the lineup will be Gomes. I think Tito will play the matchup at 3B and start Chisenhall, but we'll see.

The story of the 13 Tribe is a streaky feast of crap teams and losing jags to good teams.

IDK is nervous is the right word, but the September cupcake fest is over.

So really, it's one game in MLB. The whole concept is an ignorant prostitution of the game. Who the hell knows?

Tonight's roster:

WC pos. players: Swisher, Kipnis, Cabrera, Aviles, Santana, Gomes, Stubbs, Brantley, Bourn, Raburn, Chisenhall, Giambi, Ramirez, Carson.

Wild Card roster Includes 11 pitchers: Salazar, Masterson, Kluber, Kazmir, Allen, Smith, Albers, Shaw, Rzep, Hill, Perez.

No surprises here. Sucks for Pestano not to be on it, but it's pretty clear why. Not surprised to see Hill over Hagadone.

Yeah. That's about it.

Like Choo said before the game yesterday, it doesn't feel like playoffs but rather an extension of regular season.

Look, no one wants a win MORE than I do, but I hate this format. Can't help it. Makes me far more nervous than a 5 or 7 game series when the better team "typically" shows up.

That said, I'm going to be a basket case tonight. I'm glad my sophomore has a Volley for the Cure match in Madison that will have me running around selling 50/50 tickets, selling t-shirts and watching volleyball til game time.

As much as it (potentially) sucks for us this year, as the #4 seed, it's an improvement, IMO.

It shifts a little more importance to what was accomplished over the course of a 162-game regular season. We're at least back to where only the division winners are guaranteed a real playoff series.

Consider me in the minority of those who like this 1 game format.

Its a suspenseful, high energy game. Baseball needs that. This town is amped up like it would be for a playoff Browns game right now. No way this town is this excited for game 1 of a 5 game series. No way the fans in Pittsburgh were that rowdy for the start of a 5 game series.

You want to avoid a 1 game play-in? Win your division. How big is that 4 game sweep at home now against the Tigers. A split series puts them in a 1 game playoff, not us.

I get that and I agree with HooDoo as well.

No doubt. Just be pathetic against Detroit at 6-13 and you have your ALDS tickets. Just saying from an involved fan it's nerve wracking. Last night? Exciting. No skin in the game.

Tonight? Don't talk to me during the game and if they lose I go into full blown media blackout mode for two days at least.

^ the evolving narrative of Peeker's involvement with this team continues. They win tonight he's going to be painting his head blue and red and running around town in a Chief Wahoo painted Bug.

I hate the wildcard.

But I always say, just get there and anything can happen. :hide:

And why you don't think I've already painted my head is beyond me.

I'm sorry, Lee. Like you and love, I just don't wanna get hurt again. (cache)

I'd rather see a best-of-3 series, but that's logistically impossible.

I've done a good job of containing my anxiety and excitement up to this point. Trying to train my mind to be alright with whatever happens. But once I walk in that park, that'll all change.

The 1 game "playoff" format blows. This is baseball. Baseball.

This format is a watered down NHL bull crap attendance stunt.

It's a god dam conspiracy theory is what it is.

What? Every NHL playoff series is a best-of-seven format.

Are you trying to say it's like the outdoor hockey games? Because there's no correlation between the two. Like a shootout to decide a regular season game winner? Nah, not the same thing.

I don't see your NHL comparison.

I guess so. I don't really like candy, so I guess it's ok.

Force of habit to be defensive about the NHL since I've been a fan most of my life and most people don't give a shit about it.

I got into the League during the quarters, Adam. The Cup series was tremendous in the vein of the 91 WS. I think I'm gonna give the RS a shot.

What's I'm sayin is too many teams now get into MLB playoffs. The NHL pioneered watered down playoff formats years ago, the NBA followed suit, then the NFL. damn shame MLB caved in. I know it's fan base is reduced to AARP members, little kids in little league taken by parents, and wannabe hipsters dickheads singing "Sweet Caroline".

Prsent on line ocmpany excluded, of course. Y'all's purests.

4 was perfect. 4 teams. Longer series of all 7 is the right mix. 162 should mean something.
