Game 2: SDSU @ OSU 3:30 ABC/ESPN2

Unread postby furls » Fri Sep 06, 2013 8:35 am

So after a hot cold week 1 in which the Buckeyes started by showing us game plans future and past (a playcalling tribute to Bollman and Tressel?), we still don't know much about the Buckeyes present.

While dropping a spot in the AP poll may not mean much regarding OSU's shot at playing in the NCG, I do think the staff will see that as an important point moving forward. OSU will have to win impressively if they want recognition in the human polls. Everyone knows the computers are going to hate them. The Bucks OC has accepted some responsibility for being a little too conservative in the second half, so I expect to see a more aggressive offense for at least 45 mins. Meyer and company will also have to address some questions about the cushion on the outside receivers, but I think Roby's return will take care of that at least to some extent.

SDSU lost to a 1AA team by 3 TDs last week, but their best offensive player, RB Adam Muema was limited due to an ankle injury. I am not sure if he will be back, but I don't think it really matters. I hope he is, I would like to see the defense go up against a pretty good back before the Cal game. Muema had nearly 1500 yard rushing last year, so he could be a pretty good test.

I think the Buckeyes roll regardless of whether or not he plays... no way a good team loses to 1AA EIU. 52-10.

Bust. San Diego State has a pretty decent defense. Rocky Long's team didn't give much of an effort last week and that's rare for them. Losing the turnover battle by three didn't help.. The 3-3-5 will make things interesting for the Buckeyes since it's a look they don't see much of. They especially have good numbers given the types of opposing offenses they see. Gimmick triple option stuff, the pistol, Fresno's air-raid, hurry-up type attack.

EIU had TD drives of 45 and 49, ran back a punt, and turned a pick into six on the next play. That final score is a little bit misleading. I don't think SDSU put a whole lot of effort into gameplanning for EIU and it backfired in a big way.

Ohio State wins comfortably, but I'd expect a spirited effort from SDSU this week. Ohio State's depth and big play ability will just wear them down, along with SDSU's inability to sustain drives. I think 28's a decent number for the spread. I have it even lower, but SDSU looked so disinterested last week and Ohio State should have some motivation this week after a mediocre showing against Buffalo. I'd go with the Bucks 42-10.

I think it's a gift that this game is at 3:30. If SDSU was playing at 9 a.m. their time, it'd be a blowout from the start.

OSU- 45

SDSU- 12

Too bad we didn't schedule a fucking 1AA team last week like Nike U. Probably would've score 80 points and passed Alabama.....

I don't need 60, just want to see the D play better and Decker, you know, block somebody.

Just watched the Gameday interview with Devin Gardner. Wow, they shot the breeze about cartoons? Seriously?

That said, Gardner is definitely a likeable kid. He is still a scUMmer, but still, seemed like a pretty grounded good kid, 3 year graduate says a lot too.

You run the QB and this is the risk you take, particularly a guy that is as hard to tackle as Miller. Since he doesn't go down on first contact, he takes a lot of pile on tackles. One more reason I would like to see less Miller running, unless they REALLY need it.

Dontre Wilson around the end is like stealing (unless he drops the ball). That wasn't even a close race to the corner. Great downfield blocking as pointed out by Speilman.

Cardale Jones.

Lots of running plays. I think Jones can be a player at OSU, though. Big Kid. Big arm, been in the program 2 springs this is his second fall.

Who the fuck thinks it is a good idea to run the ball with your back up QB when your starter is out with an as of yet to be determined leg injury? How 'bout we protect the franchise's insurance policy? I know it seems dumb to bitch after a TD, but seriously.... we don't have to run Kenny G in a game we are dominating.

The staff keeps saying they are going to split run:passess 50:50. Yet, they are nowhere near that. That leads me to believe that the staff does not fully trust the QBs.

he needs a backup plan when the QB is injured, you don't want to get down to 3rd/4th string.

Grant is strong as shit, so he can get away with hitting the WR up around the shoulders... most CBs really can't
