Fantasy Advice

Unread postby motherscratcher » Mon Sep 02, 2013 7:37 pm

A friend roped me into a league that's drafting tomorrow night. I'm not a big fantasy guy but I just found out its going to set me back $100 so I might as well put a little effort into it.

No idea what I'm doing really. What's the best site for strategy or maybe a good draft list to import that won't be the same as everyone else's.

Ant advice would be appreciated.

Pick RB's early. In every draft I've been in this year, there have been solid QB options on the board in the 5th-8th rounds. Don't pull the trigger on a Rodgers or Brees unless they're available late, especially with passing TD's only worth 4 points in your league. Your 1st 2 picks should be the best RB's on the board.

10 team league - Don't even look at QB.
12 team league - Like GoTribe says...5th round at the earliest.

You need 6 starters from the RB/WR positions. Depending on bye weeks, you are going to want 8 solid guys from those positions.

TE, K, Def last three picks. If you can start a TE at flex, then consider one of the studs if they are there in round 4.

There are no magic draft lists that someone else doesn't know. Draft "fliers" are for suckers. Take guys that have a solid history.

What time is the draft? Maybe use this thread for some live assistance.

If you like excel, go to lifehacker.com and search fantasy football. One of their writers posted a spreadsheet with macros that will make your draft about 1000x easier. Especially if you also follow their link to a site that aggregates and makes setting your own rankings up somewhat easy. (Forgot the site).

The other advice in this thread re: qbs and rbs is good, but I will point out that you start 3 WRs so there is a higher value on WRs in your league compared to normal 2 WR leagues. If you can get a top WR that consistently puts up points weekly then it'll put you ahead a little.

It is a 10 team league. Researching last night I came to some of the same conclusions that you guys are saying. My tentative plan is to go

RB
RB
WR
WR
WR
RB/QB

with the first 5 picks. I'll deviate IF:

1. I have a late pick and Megatron is available late 2nd/early 3rd (doubtful)
2. Rogers, Brees, Manning is available in 3rd
3. Jimmy Graham is available in 4th

Like Pup said I'll go TE, Def, K with my last 3 picks. Maybe Jordan Cameron if he's around?

Think you are fairly spot on. Only counter I would make is that there are 4 premier WRs that i feel like separate themselves from the next tier more than the 2nd round to 3rd round RBs would seem to.(CJ, Dez, Marshall, AJ Green)

I would go RB, WR, RB, WR more than likely unless a guy really slips and you feel good at the front end of the 3rd getting someone you like.
Playing here is the closest thing to heaven. Really, I mean it's amazing to be in a place where the fans truly cherish their football team and stick behind them win or lose. OK, here's the damage:

QB - RG3

RB - CJ Spiller, Matt Forte, Stevan Ridley, Daryl Richardson, Vick Ballard, Michael Bush

WR - Randall Cobb, Victor Cruz, Pierre Garcon, Cecil Shorts, Josh Gordon, Vincent Brown

TE - Zach Sudfeld, Tyler Eifert

D - Chiefs (matchup Jacksonville week 1)

K - Vinatieri

Thoughts? Good, Bad, OK? I've got no frame of reference here.

Well, you didn't draft any Cavs players, so you have that going for you.
