Looks like we empty the bench as everyone who can bat RH'ed gets the nod. Except Brantley.

It'd be nice to see Reynolds not suck today.

Reynolds's walk rate was 13.3% in July. That's pretty good. Everything else, however, was terrible.

I tried to explain how it all works to Peeker last night, but I think he's still skeptical.

Love how Chifux bitching coach comes out to the mound and chews out their best pitcher in Sale. To wit...he nails Gomes.

Justin better be looking for payback.

Could be a good game to get Scrabble into. Five or six run cushion in the eighth would be optimal.

I'm really stunned with his performance. Never saw it coming.

Entering this season, his career WAR was 2.6. After today, it's probably 2.1 or 2.2 this season alone.

That was just wrong. Accurate and sad, but wrong.

I never understood the logic behind bringing him out like that. It was horrible.

Well.... it was memorable and people still talk about it. So clearly it was justified.

And to be fair, a lot of people where I was that were making fun of DC at midnight were speaking as incomprehensibly as he was. Fucking hypocrites.

But still the Tigers and Royals have a better 10 game mark. 9-1. I only mention that because the Central was supposed to be pretty weak. I'll certainly take 8-2 the rest of the way.

In the last week the Tigers, Tribe and Royals are a combined 21-0.

So yeah, playing good ball is requisite right now.

It's clearly time to trade him now that his value is peaking. Do it before he starts slumping. ;-) ;)

I'm sure Francona will take note that Brantley got 9 strikes in 10 pitches against Sale and couldn't even manage one foul ball. No way Brantley will be in the lineup next time Sale pitches.

Rich Hill with a surprisingly good performance and Reynolds actually drove in a run with a base hit. Enjoy it while it lasts.

As deep as our bench is, sadly we'll always have to play at least one lefty in the lineup. Maybe next time Kip gets the short straw.

By the way, another great job by Francona last night.

Facing one of the best lefties in baseball, he benches Bourn and moves Stubbs up to leadoff. Stubbs gets on base four times.

He gives Kipnis the day off and moves Raburn, who has a hot bat, into the 3-hole. Raburn has three hits and four RBI's.

Bases loaded, two outs in the 7th, Sox threatening, and Francona decides to pull his All-Star ace starter who's given up two earned runs in the last 21 innings. He brings in Rich Hill, who has been more bad than good this year with an ERA north of 6.00. Hill gets De Aza to bounce out and preserves the 4-run lead.

I agree with Francona that Antonetti deserves a lot of credit for coming up with guys like Raburn, Aviles, and Gomes, but you have to admit Francona is doing a masterful job this year.

Raburn's OPS is up to .961 which is 200 points higher than his career average. Part of it is good health, but Francona has done a magnificent job of spotting him against pitchers he can handle.

Some tough series in August. I hope we can avoid "the collapse" and I can watch some exciting baseball when I get back from East Africa. Been here 3 weeks now without baseball and 8 game win streaks make it harder to bear. Only 6 weeks left :(
