I know these guys are pros but from what I remember playing baseball, the run down play is never really easy.

IIRC it's been every damned game vs chicago that they screwed us in the 9th inning, right? We need a double to the RF corner right now...

I swear the Baseball Gods got so fed up with umpire Reyburn's top-of-the-9th strike zone (and that 2nd-last pitch to Carlos in the bottom of the 10th) they would not let the Tribe be denied! What a fun game! Hate when our pitcher throws an IBB, love when the opposition does.

Another awesome win, but how many times can Cabrera swing at a breaking ball in the dirt in one game? That was the most miserable offensive performance I've seen in a while. He basically got himself out five times in a row. The pitchers didn't need to do anything except keep throwing changeups two feet off the plate.

But Cody Allen gets the award for worst performance of the game. And that's not easy to do with Mark Reynolds in the lineup.

Francona pushed all the right buttons so far this series but putting in Allen was his first screwup. Not that it didn't make sense at the time. Allen just didn't have it tonight and he was getting squeezed like a big dog. Too bad he cost Kluber the win.

But - it didn't matter. Brantley was magnficent with three hits, including the double to get the 9th inning rally going, and a couple more nice running catches in left. Kipnis had a tough night but came back after being down two strikes to get the game-tying sac fly. And then there was Santana doing his best Raburn/Giambi walk-off homer imitation. It's catching on.

Reed has to be kicking himself for hitting Giambi with two strikes.

And I know you don't want to walk the winning run to begin an inning, but giving Santana a fastball on 3-2 in extra innings is certain death. Can't believe Axelrod didn't go offspeed.

Lost in all the hubbub was how good Kluber was again. He's legit. This is not smoke and mirrors. He's a solid No. 3 starter.

That was fun. Quite a roller coaster ride. I'd say tonight was the 30th game I've been to this season, give or take, and it had the best crowd, sans maybe the Home Opener. Helped that it was an exciting game, but good work by those who were there.

And a nice "Go fuck yourself" to the people that left before the bottom of the 9th.

How do you know Kluber would have gotten the win? When he left CHI was winning 3-2 and had a runner on 1st that was Kluber's responsibility. IF Allen got the next guy out there was no guarantee that the Tribe would have so much as scored one run to tie, no less two to win. It's silly to assume that the bottom of the 9th would have had the same 2-run result. However, IF we were down by one going into the bottom of the 9th and IF we still scored those two runs yes, Kluber would have had a win IF Tito had left him in (which, in hindsight, would have probably been better) rather than going to the bullpen. But IFs don't count. And Kluber gets a no-decision. I'm sure he's way happier with tonight's results than you are...

It was actually 3-3 when Kluber left the game...... not 3-2. We still would have had to score in the bot 9th to get him the win, but he wasn't losing when he was pulled.

The guy was cruising and under 100 pitches so I would've left him in to face Viciedo. But, Allen should've got the job done regardless.

Well, you're right, I was assuming if Allen got the final out we still would have scored in the bottom of the 9th and Kluber would get the win.

However, one could argue that if it was 3-3 rather than 5-3 the White Sox may have used a different pitcher (although managers normally use their closer in that situation), or Reed may have pitched differently in a tie game than when leading by two runs (I doubt it - he's trying to get every batter out the best he can no matter what the score, right?). I still think the Tribe would have scored against Reed had the game been tied, but I don't "know" that, so I'll gracefully but reluctantly yield on this one.

Tripods, thanks for posting that video. I live out of state so I don't get to hear Hamilton. I love hearing those calls the next day. Keep 'em coming.

Agree on both points.

Allen had Viciedo down 0-2. Wasted one and then...

Little worried about five games in six days with 6 IP for Perez. I understand we need to win games and he's about our only reliable option, but he's already been on the DL once this season and we can't afford to take too many chances with his arm.

Maybe, but his pitch count has been about 7 per outing. And he's switched to a nice Sativa hybrid. Gives him the body high while free'ing up the creative spaces. (smoke)

Yeah, whilst the fact that he's working in a lot of games and therefore the pitches in the pen mount up as well, the actual pitch counts for CP in the games over this stretch have been 10, 7, 10, 6, 18(2IP) so they have been very stress-free outings.

Still. That's too much work. This is a lot all at one time, pitch counts or not. That's getting up every single day, warming up, and coming in at max effort. He may be one of those guys who is in better shape getting steady work, but I'd imagine he's unavailable today and they'll be very careful with him in Miami.

Bullpen guys don't pitch essentially six days in a row, especially not closers.

Again, I understand it. He's your only high-leverage reliever right now.

Don't disagree..... I guess what I was trying to say was "it could be worse" (if he'd had "normal" pitch counts over that stretch).

When watching live I even had an internal monolgue going about letting Kluber pitch the 10th if we went to extras.

Hmm, I know I looked at the box score to make sure my memory was right ('cuz lots of times it isn't) and I KNOW this here box score showed the Tribe with only 2 runs thru middle of the 9th: http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/mlb/ga ... n&mode=box, one run in the 4th, and one in the 5th, then nothing until the bottom of the 9th.

Daz, I think I know what the problem is. We can't keep all this winning straight! Nice problem to have...

The 1st inning is hidden on that box score..... mystery solved.

Nothing wrong with being "drunk" on winning - long may it continue.

::doh:: Thanks. Told ya my memory was bad...forgot about that run by the 10th. Next time I'll check both the boxscore AND the play-by-play. And agreed, drunk on winning is fun.
