Indians at Mariners, Welcome back Mac

Unread postby Prosecutor » Tue Jul 23, 2013 10:40 pm

Unbelievable. McAllister needs to get six outs to get out of the first thanks to more abysmal defense. The Indians let two wins slip away against the Twins due to bad defense and they're up to it again. Chiz and Reynolds are pitiful.

The good part of it is that last year every time his defense made an error McAllister imploded. Tonight he just kept pitching and got out of it with minimal damage.

This defense is getting really hard to watch. Even Kipnis, who has been nails all year, is starting to boot routine grounders.

There's a good chance McCalister injures himself between innings just so he doesn't have to subject himself to that defense behind him again.

In the immortal words of Vince Lombardi, "What the hell's going on out there!"

And that shovel Peeker wanted to use to hit Reynolds over the head with? Perhaps he can just take it out to 1B in place of the frying pan he's usually lugging out there.

Holy Christ.

Gomes with a 2-run bomb into the upper deck.

Swisher with five consecutive swings and misses in his first two at-bats before finally fouling one off on his 6th swing. Then he swings and misses. He has no chance against this guy. And to think he's hitting 2nd.

Nice to see them score three runs in one game. Maybe they can get one or two more in the next seven innings.

I'll be happy if they get through the 2nd with no errors.

Wedge is in the hospital for the second game in a row due to feeling dizzy and lightheaded. Someone must have used the word "grinder" in the wrong context in his presence.

It's going to be a short start for McAllister. He's already over 40 pitches with nobody out in the second, thanks to his defense giving the M's three extra outs and some control problems.

Well, another error by Chisenhall on a bad throw to first that Reynolds couldn't knock down. Even a good throw doesn't double the runner off, so now they have a man in scoring position. Chisenhall is a joke. Take his glove away and make him a DH.

Another walk by Mac. He's definitely rusty after six weeks or so without pitching. His fastball has lost a few ticks, too. He hasn't gotten it over 92 yet.

But he bears down and gets out of another jam. Great job so far without great command or his best fastball.

Our corner infield guys have been absolute GD butchers on defense. Our defense in general has been more offensive than our offense. :bag:

Francona looked a little light-headed as well watching that 1st inning action.

Calphalonnie strikes again.

McAllister definitely laboring. Not finishing off his delivery real well.

First time seeing Erasmo Ramirez, who has been talked about quite a bit on Fangraphs. Rushes through his delivery a bit, but fastball's got some late tail, changeup looks like a plus pitch. Think he really needs a third pitch to develop.

Pretty decent looking arm.

Reynolds with one hit in his last 19 at-bats, and that was a sacrifice bunt attempt that luckily went to the right spot. Why is he playing?

Great relay by Kipnis and an even better block and tag at the plate by Gomes. The Indians finally play some defense. 'Bout time Mac got a break. He better start getting that fastball down, though.

No way Morales is out at the plate with Santana catching.

Third double of the inning for the M's. McAllister closing in on 70 pitches already. Not having pitched in so long his arm strength and stamina isn't there. It looks like he's gassed. Now he's got Zunino who fouled off a ton of pitches his first AB. Not looking good.

And a wild pitch. He's toast.

i could swear we were watching the bad news bears out there. i mean all of a sudden this team can't hit, can't pitch, can't catch, can't throw and can't run the bases. it's like they hit the all-star break and somebody hit the off switch and never turned it back on. ugh!!!

They can pitch, but that's it. They scored eight runs in the four losses and gave away a number of runs on errors and mental mistakes (Stubbs on the bases last night, Droobs' dumb throw to 3rd base against Minny). The hitting and defense have been abysmal. There have been a couple of base hits by opponents that should have been ruled errors. Not to mention a wild pitch that allowed a run to score in a 4-3 loss.

Seven errors by infielders in five games, not to mention the Kipnis bobble that allowed the winning run to score against Minny and several hits that were actually errors.

At least McAllister got his first start out of his system and should be better next time. He might need to throw a shutout to get a win, though.
