7-20-13 Indians vs Twins

Sloopy defense. Does Lonnie Chisenhall have a twin brother who plays the field for him? Or did he forget how to field during the "break"?

I think everyone had a bit too much "break".

Hill

Edit: We really need a LOOGY. I'd be happy if that was all we got.

I don't remember. I'm so flustered I choose to forget what I just saw... I do remember that throwing error going right into the Twins' dugout

Was C. Perez in charge of "activities" during the break?

Hill walked Mauer on four pitches. Had Morneau down in the count and hung a breaking ball. Chisenhall opened the door, though. Without his bad throw that went into the dugout, we might have gotten out of it without allowing a run.

Tribe's "defense" has been absolutely brutal these two games.

I'd agree, but you might wanna hang a number on the Pelfrey/Correia combo.

This remains a team built by Dumb and Dumber. I don't care who you get to manage it, the lack of talent is enough to bring down anyone.

And THIS is why I've refrained from commenting too much on games this season.

Kipnis: "We're getting into late July right now. You can make excuses for a while, but we're going to need some guys to start stepping up."

Atta boy, Kipnis. Love to see him speak with some emotion. His bobble on the DP ball made a difference, but they've scored four runs in games started by Mike Pelfrey and Kevin Correia. That's unacceptable.

Talk about deja vu. Both games the Tribe scores two runs in one inning to take a 2-0 lead. Both games the Twins start a 6th inning rally with a walk, then even the score on an error by Chisenhall and a bloop single. I swear I was saying to myself that this looks like last night's game and sure enough, that's exactly what it turned out to be.

Chisenhall may have to go back to Columbus again to work on his fielding. What a butcher. Even the ground ball by Morneau in his first at-bat got literally booted all the way to the tarp. It would have been a hit anyway, but it was embarassing watching Chiz kicking the ball into foul territory. He's got to be a DH next season and we've got to find somebody who can play third at the major league level or the pitchers will mutiny.

Between Chiz and Reynolds we might have the worst defense at third base by any team in a decade or more.

The Twins have a simple formula - good pitching and great defense to keep the game close until the Indians walk somebody and their defense screws up. Throw in a clutch two-out single and there's your ballgame.

At least Kluber continues to roll. He and Kazmir were extremely impressive the last two nights with neither pitcher allowing an earned run. And Vinnie looked like the old Vinnie, so there were some silver linings.

Unfortunately the offense couldn't do much against the Twins starters despite their high ERA's. Swisher and Reynolds might as well bunt every time - it's their only chance of getting on base.

The drive by Asdrubal off the right field wall epitomized the series. He hesitated coming out of the box thinking it would curve foul, then got thrown out at second on a perfect throw. The Twins play great defense and the Indians make a mental or physical mistake - that's the story of the series so far. That's two boneheaded plays in two games for Asdrubal.

Kipnis with a rare bobble at second probably cost us an inning-ending double play and allowed the winning run to score. Meanwhile the Twins have been perfect in the field. They've made every single routine play and added a few diving catches. By contrast the Indians have been embarassing bumblers. Swisher's drop off a perfect throw to first and Gomes' drop of a bunt pop-up epitomize the lack of even minimally acceptable defense.

Finally, I'm done with Rich Hill. Just when it looked like he might be getting on track, he fails yet again. How is a left-handed relief pitcher with an ERA over 6.00 while pitching almost exclusively against left-handed hitters still on the team at this point in the season? Release him. I'd rather not even have a lefty in the pen if the choices are Hill, Hags, or Barnes. Just bring in Cody Allen or CC Lee and I'll live with whatever happens.
