New Pearl Jam CD October 15

Unread postby skatingtripods » Thu Jul 11, 2013 4:40 pm

New Pearl Jam CD called Lightning Bolt comes out October 15. Also have a 24-date tour that begins October 11 in Pittsburgh, October 12 in Buffalo, and then nowhere close after that.

Here's the first single called Mind Your Manners.

Little bit of a California punk sound in there. Not sure how I feel about it.

This will suck and that is 100% fact.

Band died, even live, about the time Eddy became more interested in GWB than making music.

This is just ridiculous. Have you ever even seen them live? They are one of the greatest live acts in history, and will remain so until I see a single shred of evidence that their shows don't have a unique set list nightly and all clock in around 2 1/2 hours.

Around four times.

The last two sucked because Eddie was far more interested in preaching about politics than performing and he's grown further disconnected.

Eddie does get preachy, but that's usually a really small part of it. Not even long enough to get a beer. Their sets are still great and while they will obviously play newer stuff that isn't as good you will still get a shit ton of favorites.

Part of the reason the shows are great is because of the crowds. The vast majority are going to know 90% of the songs and be completely into it. There are vitually no assholes who show up and spend the entire time yelling for Jeremy.

And no matter how many times I've heard it live, Yellow Ledbetter is like a religious experience. It makes me almost what to cry I'm so happy to be hearing it.

Saw them live once. Was a runner for one of their concerts in '96 at some minor league baseball park in Ft. Lauderdale. Job was to drive out and get shit if anyone needed anything, which means I spend most of my time sitting around the backstage area doing nothing. Met Eddie briefly, nice guy, really short, like barely above 5 feet. Saw Bernie back there, was the only time in my life I went up to a celebrity to shake their hand. Was about 20 feet from the sidestage for the first half of the show - which was very good and the crowd turned the baseball field into a quagmire since it rained (What? Rain in Southern Florida?) Then got sent to get the band food, which was Olive Garden (you'd think a band like Pearl Jam could afford something better). Had to bring it to their trailer, which did not disappoint (girls and drugs, check). Someone stole Stone Gossard'sn guitar, which became a huge public thing afterwards (pleas on radio stations and what not) since he'd had it since like birth, but it was anonymously returned.

This was all a nice memory and the show was good, but I can safely say that I haven't listened to a whole PJ album or seen a show since because, well, that band kind of bores me.
It's only progress if you eventually get somewhere.

You're not crushing any youthful memories, dude. I just think your stance opinion that their live shows suck because eddie talks about Ralph Nader for 2 minutes and he doesn't climb into rafters anymore is kind of silly.

I am fragile, though.

Obscure's got nothing to do with it. The point is, everyone at the Pearl Jam show knows all of the songs and probably just about all of the lyrics to those songs, no matter what album or how much airplay. It's why they can open a concert by playing Betterman and have Eddie not even join in until the second verse, like they did in Cleveland 8 years ago. And it's why they can play the first 3 notes of Lowlight and the whole place will go apeshit and sing along with it despite probably never appearing on the radio ever.

Been a PJ fan since the beginning.

Their live shows are incredible.

Yes, Eddie is preachy, but he's gotten better since the disaster of the 2003 tour where it got so political I barely listen to any of the bootlegs from that tour. Even Eddie has come out and said he realized people don't come to PJ shows to listen to him bitch about politics.

The 2009 album, Backspacer, is one of their best albums since the Ten/Vs. era, I highly recommend it if you haven't listened to it.

I'm in the fan club, but the $147 for two pit tickets is out of my current budget, and I'm really ticked off about that. You'd think they'd make the fan club tickets a little more affordable. I can get those prices from Ticketmaster.

Looking forward to the new album, as always.

Favorite PJ records, in order:

1. Ten
2. Vs.
3. Backspacer
4. Yield
5. Vitalogy
6. No Code (This one grows on you)
7. The Avocado Album (A little preachy in places, but has some good songs on it)

The Rest Suck, in this order:
8. Binaural (One good song, two OK songs, the rest are completely forgettable)
9. Riot Act (PJ at their worst, Eddy Screaming from his soapbox and almost unlistenable unless you're an uneducated left wing douche who hates 'Merica)

So when they bust out a great song like "Last Kiss" or Eddie going all neil Diamond to "Lucky Man" ehrone can sing. That's so cool.

Just like a Bruce Springstein concert. Or a Coke sommercial.

You know what's really awesome? When fans would sing at a Leonard Coen concert cause he never got air play. That makes it rock n roll spirituality.

Look, I'm not bagging on PJ. Great band. I really like all sorts of their work. Glorified G rarely misses a playlist.

But dude, the whole "PJ fans are so sooper-dedicated-indy" thing is just..... IDK. I have an evil patholigical need to break your ballz. Thats' because I am a bad person.

PJ is a big arena coporate non-corporate very very good rock band. I really like them. They ain't the Kidney brothers. Doesn't make that worse. Just makes them good at what they do. And it makes the devil in me need to break your balls like as if I'm eddie and ur Ticketmaster. I'll work on my dickweed pathology.

Sorry.

I think you're overthinking this Dickweed....er, I mean JB. Here's my argument in it's entirety:

Pearl Jam concerts are good and fun and I like to go to them.

The end.

I actually wrote a 15 page honors essay on that song and cited that set, twice. Their best performance by far and best song.
