Why not try Gomes as a 3Bman?

Gomes bat and potential seem to be promising. He's played it in the past.

24 games at Triple-A, 63 chances, and 6 errors doesn't exactly qualify as "playing it in the past". It probably qualifies as a "tried and failed experiment".

As I said in another thread, if Francona felt Gomes could handle 3B, he'd have gotten time over there already to get his bat in the lineup.

Why would you want to move him at this point anyway? He's fine where he is.

Because Reynolds is much more effective NOT playing 3B, and Gomes bat plays better 5 days a week than 2.

I'v been an advocate of this from the begging. If his range is that bad than why is his C defense so good? And we all know what he can do with his arm. Guy has an absolute laser beam.

And I already made moot the point that you can't burn your backup C in case somebody gets hurt. We have 3 other guys that can play 3B if Yan Solo starts there and Los goes down for whatever reason.

I just don't understand why we can't even try him there for a game or two. He couldn't be worse than when we trotted that poor 2B out to LF a few years ago...the No-Valbueno experience.
