Santana needs to bat lead off. Best bunt since Jake Taylor.

Very high strike zone.

I can't remember a year where the strike zone is so all-over-the-place and so different between games. I wonder if the "interleauge everyday" now that the Astros are in the AL is messing with the normal rotation of Umps. And that somehow is messing with their ability to call balls and strikes.

Maybe Yaz. Nomar was also really damn good early in his career. Before the injuries set in.

But probably Ted, yes.

Well, that's it for Dempster. 4 runs in 3 IP, with 85 pitches.

McAllister or somebody else needs to put one square in the middle of Papi's back in this series.

This NESN color guy has a really annoying Bahstun accent, but their on-field reporter is an absolute stunner.

I typically hate all things Boston, but I have taken a liking to the Barstool Sports Boston website. One of their regular features during baseball season analyzes the typically-two-sizes-too-small outfit that reporter, Jenny Dell, is wearing that day. And most days, it's 100 percent yowza.

Rick Porcello continues to be downright awful. Which is scary because Dombrowski always adds a good pitcher at the trade deadline when he needs one.

Aviles being aggressive on the basepaths, gets bailed out by the throw, and Bourn knocks him in. Great stuff by Terry.

I heard it. Got a nice chuckle out of it. Wasn't as good as the live "FUCK YOU!" on the Bruins/Rangers game when I flipped over. But still funny.

Just out of curiosity, what is it about Allen that makes him better closer material than Pestano? No snark, not being a dick (for once). Just curious.

Don't remember, but has Barnes always had this herky-jerky delivery. He's an elbow injury waiting to happen.

Red Sox no longer give a shit, but that was a strong inning from Barnes. I like the deception his arm action provides. Not sure he can stay healthy, but he hides the ball well if he can throw strikes.

From what I've seen so far, he throws more pitches for strikes. Vinnie will get guys to chase but Cody will hammer the zone. He throws a really nice slider to complement his 96 MPH fastball as well.

Not sure if the link will work since I'm sure you don't have an account, but here's a side-by-side of Pestano and Allen:

Cody Allen cant? ;-) ;) ;-) ;) bases loaded ;-) ;) ;-) ;) Trust me I get it, Allen's stuff is "nastier" however I just think it makes more baseball and financial sense to just keep Godfathering it down the line, if both stay healthy and highly productive at the same time of course.

Just out of curiosity, what is it about Allen that makes him better closer material than Pestano? No snark, not being a dick (for once). Just curious.

Cool site but I'm not sure i know what all the stats stand for. I'm not saying that Vinnie can't throw strikes because he obviously can. He's usually automatic. I guess I just prefer a harder throwing closer. I wouldn't be mad if Vinnie gets he job someday, I just think its nice to know we have one of the best set up men in the game.

I'm not attacking you here, but you're basing your decision on the closer-in-waiting on who throws harder?

Not at all. I just think that Vinnie has become one of the best in the biz at what he does. Why mess with it? I could very well be wrong and he could be a great closer. But if he fails as a closer and moves back to a set-up man, will his confidence recover? He probably would but who knows?

Nice to see the Indians clobber Boston after all the blowouts in Cleveland last month.

I have nothing insightful to add to the conversation, I haven't had a decent night's sleep in weeks.

Barnes with the 3-inning save. Has McAllister given up more then 3 runs in a start yet this year?

Ok I'm wrong. Scott Barnes is clearly the closer in waiting.
