Well Seattle WAS 3rd in the league in defense before this game started. That 3 they put up on the board (so far) sure will help them.

What's crazy is that the Tribe could have lost this series 1-3 instead of winning it 4-0. Unreal.

Error by the Seattle closer allows the tying run to score. Then Seattle goes up 8-7 on a solo shot in the top of the 10th.

Bottom of the 10th is a bloop single by Brantley, Stubbs then walks (?), and the Yan yanks one over the fence in Left for a 3-run walk off. Just amazing. This team is just amazing. :thumb up:

EDIT: Stubbs went to bunt and there was another error allowing all runners safe.

Stubbs was safe at first on a sac bunt when the first baseman dropped the ball.

Oh man I don't know how old you are but in the 80s, Clay Matthews intercepted a pass and just needed to hit the deck. He tried to lateral to a teammate (Chris Pike?). Browns lost possession. I had been waiting to drive somewhere and left right then, PO'd. Didn't listen on the radio. Arrived at destination and everyone was delirious from K Mack imposing his will at the end for the win. Matthews had a pick in the playoffs soon after and did hit the turf. But I missed a great win, and never turn away now.

It would appear the chances of Lou Marson playing major league baseball again in Cleveland get slimmer by the hour. I don't care about the homer, Gomes has a freaking cannon .

His home run calls were all vintage. And beautiful.

As I said earlier. He still has an option. It might be perfect for him to work with the kids in C-Bus and start building his manager/teaching resume. I've noticed when they show shots of the bench he's always in the huddle with the rest of the managers and coaches. He pretty much is Sandy's shadow at this point. Kid obviously knows where his future lies.

Plus he'd be a nice depth piece if "gulp" Yan or Carlos gets dinged up. (knocks on wood.)

And if you're on Facebook you always have this option: Tom Hamilton has the Best Home Run call in all of Baseball. Heck, if you aren't on FB it's worth signing up just to hear all of Hammy's HR calls over...and over...and over again.

How the fuck did we win this game?!

Seemed like the bullpen was trying to lose it all night (well, the last 3 innings) and Seattle just kept giving us more chances.

And Yan Gomes...... you're already a Cleveland Legend!

Marson's going to AAA, simple as that.

Yan should be the starting catcher and Santana the regular DH. Carlos will still catch whenever Yan needs a day off, and he'll play 1st whenever someone else needs a game at DH. Make it happen Tito.

So much versatility on this team.

Everyone keeps forgetting Yan plays a +3B and 1B, and is an average outfielder (low range but cannon arm.) I doubt we see him in the OF with Aviles and Raybourn ahead of him, but there's plenty of places to get him AB's, especially as Giambi is looking more and more like a late inning PH'er and not a DH.

It is a fun problem to have for sure. I've never seen a team with this great a bench or a bench with this much versatility. Except for catcher (until Lou gets back), we've got three high quality guys at every spot on the diamond. Amazing.

1B - Swisher, Santana, Reynolds, Gomes
2B - Kipnis, Aviles, Rayburn
3B - Reynolds, Aviles, Rayburn, Gomes
SS - Droobs, Aviles
LF - Brantley, Aviles, Rayburn, Gomes
CF - Bourn, Stubbs, Brantley, Rayburn
RF - Stubbs, Swisher, Rayburn
C - Santana, Gomes, (Marson)
DH - Reynolds, Giambi, Santana, Gomes

Just amazing. Three super utility guys on one team.

Edit: Rayburn has never played SS...but ya'll get the point.

I don't know what all the excitement is about. We always win when Gomes plays. Well, almost always. We're 14-3, which qualifies as almost always.

And we ALWAYS win when tied or leading after six innings.

So this one was in the bag all the way. Never in doubt. Everybody move along. Nothing to see here.

So the BP guys decided to mess with us a little just for laughs but there was never a doubt.

So much versatility on this team.

He has already stolen Lou Marson's job. It will be interesting the rest of the summer to see how he plays and see if he just goes out and steals Santanna's job too, making Carlos DH/1b/C on that order next season.

My everyday lineup would have Reynolds at 3rd, Swisher at 1st, Gomes catching and Santana at DH. That's the best defensive lineup we can put on the field. Santana is in a slump and should be allowed to concentrate on his offense for right now.

And very nearly always win when scoring 4 runs.

Let's not get carried away with ourselves anointing Gomes as the starting catcher.

He's been great and we should obviously try and get him some more PT but it's going to take more than 50ABs of production for him to displace Santana.

No doubt Lou Marson's place is in AAA and Gomes' bat to this point will allow more flexibility but calling him a starting catcher right now is a bit premature.

annointing a player based on a small sample size is tough at this point. See Raburn as your starting LF after his one week tear.

I like Gomes and what he brings both at the plate and behind it but can he do that day in, day out as a starter?

It's the depth this team has that will hopefully keep it in contention (that and the SP being consistent)
Galley Boys are slop on top of a so-so burger and a bun you coulde get from a Covneninet food mart generic pack. They the Antoine Joubert of burgers; soft, sloppy, oozing grease and cheap sauce and extremely overrated by a biased fan base. Proof that if you throw enough cheap sauce shit on a burger you still can't overcome the lame burger. -JB

Agree. I have to say, I'm really surprised with how Gomes is swinging the bat given the sporadic playing time of a backup catcher. Normally young guys struggle in that role, but he's been really productive when given the chance.

The league will adjust. He's averaging only 1.2 balls per plate appearance, mostly because his chase rate is at 38.2%. I know pitchers are hesitant to throw him breaking balls because walking him to roll over the order is a bad idea, but he'll start getting a steadier diet of offspeed stuff, and it's unlikely that he'll suddenly become a more patient hitter. We'll see how he adjusts.

His weaknesses as a hitter would get exposed pretty quickly if he played every day. Why change what's working now?
