No such thing as a minor UCL tear.

Sounds like a Tommy John job to me

It's a sprain, not a tear.

Still, like you said, where the UCL is involved, nothing is minor.

Doesn't matter. It's all semantics on what they call it. A UCL injury of any kind is bad news.

Sounds like Tommy John. Hope we insured that 7M.

Arguing that it's a STRAIN and not a tear = semantics (as a strain is a partial tear).

But, this is neither, it's a sprain which is not a tear (or strain for that matter) of the muscle, it's just been stretched beyond its normally capacity.

I agree it's never good news when the UCL involved but a sprain is much more likely to heal with rest than a strain or tear.

TJ surgery may still be the ultimate outcome but, there is a clear distinction between a sprain and a tear/strain.

I'm probably wrong, but IIRC, Jake Westbrook's was a "sprain" too, until they discovered a tear upon further examination.

Either way. Sprain, strain, tear. He'll probably wind up with Tommy John. I can't see this going away in two weeks without throwing.

At least it's not Justin Masterson we're talking about. Yeah Myers is a veteran but wasn't exactly lights out. I'm sure the Tribe will find a replacement via the farm system or a trade.

Time to trade? Hmmm, AC maybe? Heard his name floating around the water coolers.

He was a major league starting pitcher. They currently have about one, maybe one and a half. If they had more comin' on the horizon they'd already be hangin' around.

One of the few hopes this staff had was Myers being competent.

I recall Chris saying in ST that insurance was much more expensive and difficult to get than in the 90's, so don't hold your breath on seeing any of that $7 million go towards another pitcher.

Yep-

You're far better off hoping he was throwing slop up there because he was hurt and that two weeks off cures what ails him. Truth be told, no throwing for two weeks likely means a month off the MLB mound.

And like Lead said, you sign old guys with sketchy UCLs with no insurance on 'em because you ain't got guys that are any better anywhere else in your organization, including at the #2 spot in your own rotation.

At least there's an excuse for Myers. Kinda praying they find Ubaldo's crank fell off or he has no rotator cuff for some reason.

SPRAIN= stretching +/or tear of ligament.

STRAIN= stretching +/or tear of a muscle or tendon.

I'd rather have a strain. Sprains which involve tears in a location like the ulnar collateral ligament = Not good prognosis . Correct he will need surgery sooner or later.

Myers with 3 scoreless innings allowing a hit and a BB with no Ks.

Only needed 33 pitches, although only 18 strikes.
