05/14 - Indians @ Phillies - Time for the pitchers to hit

Unread postby dazindiansfanuk » Tue May 14, 2013 6:02 pm

..... for the next two games anyway.

Indians

CF Bourn
2B Kipnis
SS Cabrera
1B Swisher
C Santana
3B Reynolds
LF Brantley
RF Stubbs
LHP Kazmir

Phillies

SS Rollins
2B Frandsen
3B M Young
1B Howard
RF D Young
LF Brown
C Ruiz
CF Mayberry
RHP Pettibone

Another chance to see how the Scott Kazmir comeback continues and another no-name pitcher for the offense to come up asgainst.... at this stage, I'd rather be facing aces the way this season's gone so far.

Indians struggle with sinker-slider guys like Pettibone. A la David Phelps from yesterday.

That was probably Reynolds's worst AB of the season.

Kazmir got taken deep by a guy with 10 career HR's in nearly 800 major league at-bats?

Huh?

Over the last three years (2010-2012) Brantley is hitting .307 with runner on base versus .248 with the bases empty.

Which is why I continue to maintain that he's much better suited to bat 6th than leadoff.

Can't wait until an ump blows an enormous call in the World Series and it can't be reviewed.

Am I missing something? Didn't that ball by Reynolds hit the glove of Howard while HE was in fair territory?

Clearly..... Howard was diving towards the foul line when he hit the ball and Howard still landed in fair territory..... no way that could be foul.

Gehrig and Hornsby? But Hornsby played for St. Louis...and these trivia questions almost always have something to do with the team we are playing.

And I'm pretty sure Ruth never won a triple crown. Hornsby did though...at least once.

Well, it looks like Team Fucking Zero is done scoring for the night. That big two-run outburst earlier tonight must have tuckered them out on the heels of that six-hour debacle yesterday against the Yankees' fifth and ninth starters. Good night, ever'body.
Bottom 4th: Cleveland
- J. Kipnis grounded out to shortstop
- A. Cabrera doubled to deep left
- N. Swisher doubled to center, A. Cabrera scored
- J. Giambi doubled to deep right center, N. Swisher to third, N. Swisher out at home
- J. Giambi caught stealing, catcher to third

1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors

A lot of bad at bats tonight. They don't seem very interested. They need Thursday's off day.

They were due for one of these. 14 games in 13 days, not many days off for most of these guys. Just looked disinterested most of the day. Not a whole lot of good at bats.

We'll see what kind of character they've got tomorrow. They'll need to score off Hamels with Kluber on the mound and the allure of a day and a half off will be staring them in the face.

Offense held scoreless 24 out of the last 25 innings. And they weren't exactly facing Sabathia and Halladay.

Yeah, they really need that day-and-a-half off.

With Kluber going tomorrow and the bats ice cold I'm not feeling a split in this series.

No, they weren't, but they were facing pitchers that match up well against them. They've struggled all season with sinker/slider type guys who top out at 89-90. Not to mention, they had never seen Phelps, Nuno or Pettibone.

Lefties the first time through the league tend to have a lot of success, even if they wind up being career stiffs. Remember when Jeremy Sowers went 7-4 with a 3.56 over his first 16 career starts in 2006? He hung an 11-26 5.63 ERA the rest of his career.

People are going to overreact to this stretch. It's easier to hit guys you have seen and have a book on.

I was half way through your lefties through the league sentance and Sowers came into mind....

Maybe we should bring up Matt Packer for the stretch run.
