5.03 - Prince vs Michael Stanley

Tried to come up with a famous food from Minnesota and the best I could find was corn on the cob. If your cities most famous food is a vegetable...you got problems.

Anyway, no lineups cause we won the last two without them. Suffice to say we got all the RH'ed bats we have playing.

Pedro vs. Justin

Fun stat of the night courtesy of ESPN: -

"Justin Masterson has thrown his sinker 71.8 percent of the time, highest among starters in the league this season. As a team, the Twins have hit .063 in at-bats ending in a sinker, the worst average in the league."

I guess that means they're going to knock Masterson around!

And just like that, the first two hitters get hits off sinkers and the Twins lead 1-0.

First 4 players with 300 HR's and 300 steals.

My guess: Mantle, Mays, Hornsby, Bonds (jr). No idea if any of those are correct.

You can say that again. If he keeps this up he's gonna cost a lot of money next year. I know it's still early but they may want to try and lock him up for another 2 years.

Lineup is looking devastating on this win streak

Can't wait to get Bourn and Swish back too

Manning is a bit harsh on the girl isn't he? it's funny when he does it to Underwood but he's a bit brutal to katie

It angers me how much Masterson struggles against the Twins. So many terrible hitters on this team year after year.

That run is on Gomes. Have to pitch to your defense. Can't let him slap a sinker to the left side of the infield. Gotta bury one in on the hands or throw the slider out there so he's out in front and pulls it on the ground.

He'll learn. Hopefully Francona says something to him about it.

I like it. Show the kid a little confidence. He's been pitching in nothing but mop up situations. Let's see how he does in a medium leverage spot.

Parmelee entered the game with a .575 OPS against RHP. Figured Allen could get him out. He's been throwing the ball well in low leverage situations. Francona decided to give him a shot in a medium leverage spot and he pissed down his leg. It's not that Smith was hurt. Could have gone to Pestano for the 4-out hold if that was the case. He wanted to show confidence in Allen. It backfired and it'll take Allen a while to get it back.

When is "the time"? Because if May 3rd against a shitty hitter isn't "the time", then there is no time.

Allen can't develop any further if he's only pitching in blowouts.

There'll be plenty of chances to give Allen a shot when the pen's been well used. When everyone's rested, you've gotta go with your best - no excuses!

I understand this argument. I also understand that the guy who has a better pulse on this team than any of us do saw otherwise.

He didn't just say "Ah, fuck it" and send Allen out there. Calculated decision.

If the guy flies out, nobody says a word, do they?

To be fair.... I did say a word, although that word was only "Odd".

Another point is Smith has now only worked 0.2 innings since last Saturday.... getting him regular use is as important as using your best arms in tight spots.

Also an important point. But, again, Francona made a calculated decision to use Allen. He has to answer to it. I gave the logic why and I imagine it's pretty close to what he's going to say when the media asks him why.

In retrospect, yes, he should have gone to Smith. But if Parmelee flies out, we're not having a discussion. Up to Allen to do his job when Francona puts his trust in him. He didn't.

Unless Smith's hurt/has the flu or something, then I think it's flawed logic.

I'd use Smith here. Probably your best RHP against LHB with Mauer and Morneau due up in the inning.

Edit: You could make an argument for Rich Hill, but I'm not making that argument.

When is "the time"? Because if May 3rd against a shitty hitter isn't "the time", then there is no time.

Allen can't develop any further if he's only pitching in blowouts.

It's not the time when you are fighting to get to .500 after a fairly un impressive start
Its not the time when the team is on a small heater
It's not the time when you finally get a big crowd down to the field
It's DEFINITELY not the time when I need a win outta Masterson to get some fantasy points

Maybe Perez's hand is hurt after the last game??

Maybe that's why Smith has shifted to later in the game?

The Rich Hill experience should be fun. For some reason I envision Joe Smith entering this game to face Doumit with the bases loaded and nobody out.
