Unread postby danwismar » Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:54 pm

here's the schedule for 8 p.m. starts this season...two at home, and one at NW:

The Wisky game is the B1G opener...

9/28—Wisconsin at Ohio State, 8 EDT (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2)

10/5—Ohio State at Northwestern, 8 EDT (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2)

10/26—Penn State at Ohio State, 8 EDT (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2)

One of the BSB guys raised a pretty spot on point yesterday on Twitter. Once the B1G lifts the ban on November night games (coming, soon) ESPN is going to go HARD to get The Game as a night game.

There is a good possibility the Cal game will be a night affair as well, at least for people in the East.

Personally, I'd be perfectly fine with that.

Are you kidding me , the AARPers (aka the alumni who donate the most money) will riot. You might see more 3:30 starts. But a 8pm or later start for The Game, your going to need more baby-boomers to die off before that ever happens.

I'd charter the boat, and then I wont have to hear: "Sit down!" when god forbid I stand up and cheer after a good play at tOSU game.

OSU/scUM under the lights would be fun. Unless you're sitting in C-deck. The noon start time was really to keep fans from getting too liquored up anyhow. Old folks won't like it , because that's their bedtime.

That night game at NW is a trap game.

Agree 100% on the NW game being a trap.

The Old Alumni don't like night games because so many of them live a good clip from The Shoe. If say you lived in Marion , with traffic you may not get home till 2am, and if your from Cleveland or Cinci, your going to have to get a hotel. Its a legit beef, but man would it be a boom for the Columbus hospitality businesses.

If anybody gets within single digits of you guys the first 11 games, I'll be surprised. And while a Mich/OSU night game would be cool, in addition to the old codgers complaining, I don't think that time slot is quite as meaningful to the TV networks on Thanksgiving weekend when there's wall-to-wall football anyway. Plus it's not a huge game for West Coast interest. 3:30 is probably sufficient to broaden it out.

And for what it's worth, Michigan turned down an easy big night game opportunity with Michigan State in October last year because it gets nasty enough with the two fanbases after 6 hours of drinking, let alone 12. And that's an English tea party compared to the OSU game.

I do not want the 8pm kickoff for all OSU/scUM games in the future. Once in awhile would be alright. Kegs & Eggs will be missed though.

You can still do kegs and eggs. Quit being a vag and make a whole day of it.

Because i'm not getting up at 7am to do Kegs & Eggs when kickoff isn't until 8pm. There's nothing to do in between those 13 hours.

Swerb and I were at the 2006 game which was a 330 kick and that was pretty much AWESOME. 3:30 is the perfect time for that game.

Well sleep in and start the goddamn kegs and eggs at 11am.

Moron.

Throw the bags and the washers after that. Or GFY. Either way...

Yeah.... I was there too. I can still hear the crowd roars from Beanie's big run and his tremendous sell job on the PA that Saint Troy of Smith hit Ginn on. Burning Leon Hall.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the somewhat recent history of The Shoe aren't something like 2 of the 4 biggest crowds somewhat shitty match-ups that were night games.

*also worth noting, Meyer wants night games for recruiting purposes, Meyer asks and Meyer recieves.

It's damn hard to get national recruits in town for 12 and even 3:30 games. Far easier to go national w/ night games and ample time for them to fly in.

A bunch of kids cancelled for the UM game last year due to the noon start and not being able to get in early enough to get anything out of the trip.

Urban's going to have them ready for Northwestern if they learned anything from last year's Indiana game. And you know they did.

Do you know who the recruits were who cancelled on The Game? Channeling my inner Furls and CDT- if you're going to cancel your recruiting trip to The Game, "F**k you, you don't want you anyway!" (I get it playoff games, other commitments may make it difficult, but damnit, make it happen.)

It's impossible for a recruit to play a Friday night football game and fly into C-Bus by noon on Saturday if they are out of state. And even kids that didn't cancel just flat couldn't make it.

I can't find any lists that show who ended up no-showing right now but there were a few and plenty that couldn't come as well.

Night games at the shoe are just FUCKING ELECTRIC. If I could banish all noon kicks from OSU's schedule I would in a heartbeat. 3:30's in November and 8:00 when the weather is decent.

Thank God for OSU and local high school football. Gonna be a fun autumn watching the Buckeyes.

And you are right on about the recruiting angle. Big plus for the Buckeyes.

Off topic , but one of Meyers request is for a OHSAA Spring 7 on 7 league. I heard about a year ago from some family in the High School coaching ranks that it was on the verge of happening, anyone else hear any updates with that?
