Giambi won't be activated until Thursday it seems given the catching situation at the moment. When he is, Omir Santos (the other catcher who was in Columbus and called up today) will be sent back down, presumably.

Something about Bourn didn't look right late in the game. His body language was really telling and he was kind of plodding around with his head down. Naturally, he beat out an infield single and scored on a wild pitch after I noticed, but I think this is a good time to give him a day off.

My fiancee got an excellent picture of that guy who ran on the field. Not as good as Snow Angel Guy for the 2007 opener, but still quite impressive.

I still don't quite understand why Gomes wasn't active yesterday as opposed to going with a 24-man roster and a catcher only available "in an emergency".

Odd.

I know it's VERY early but, at what point do we start to worry about Kipnis?!

The average is meaningless at this point but, 10Ks and 0BBs in 27AB after the 1st inning K surely has gotta have you a little worried?!

Little CCs got good stuff..... doesn't seem to have a clue where it's going though.

Hurts badly to have 2 out and no one on with 7-8-9 due up and you end up giving up 4 runs.... and counting?!

There's really no sense in waiting for twelve games to be played. A team that calls Ubaldo Jimenez their number two starter blows.
Bottom 4th: Cleveland
- J. Kipnis grounded out to shortstop
- A. Cabrera doubled to deep left
- N. Swisher doubled to center, A. Cabrera scored
- J. Giambi doubled to deep right center, N. Swisher to third, N. Swisher out at home
- J. Giambi caught stealing, catcher to third

1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors

Pretty stupid of Carrasco to get himself tossed in his first game back, considering the roster shenanigans it took to work around his suspension. Can't imagine that sits too well upstairs.

That said, I'm not terribly concerned about the rest of his performance. It sucked majorly, yes. But for his first game in nearly two years, it's pretty much expected. Hopefully he can build from this and put it behind him. Control is the last thing to come back after TJ surgery.

Put another way, I'm willing to give him a way longer leash than Ubaldo. We know what we need to about him.

So, looks like we'll be seeing Kluber either tomorrow or Thursday (could start Z-Mac on regular rest tomorrow).

After that bush league move, I suspect Carrasco will be the one to make way.

We won't be seeing Carrasco for a while. He'll be suspended again and I don't think Francona will want him back until he shows some maturity.

this is difficult and frustrating to watch.

I'm genuinely glad they spent money and are making an effort, but I think we're seeing the beginning of how this is the wrong way to build a small to mid market team, at least for the next year or two. Without a stable of young cheap pitching, you don't have a chance and we have 2 starters at most who belong in their rotation spot. Bauer is intriguing but I think you need to literally be 7-8 deep with solid, reasonably priced starters like the A's to be in the mix without an elite batting lineup. I'm sure that's the eventual goal but it may not happen until Masterson Asdrubal and Perez are gone and the Bourne and Swisher deals reach their less appetizing years. I just would have preferred a more firm strategy in one direction or the other. I thought the Lohse/Marcum types were overpriced but if they were really serious about contending, they had to write that check or be ready to hit the trade market immediately. Otherwise Swisher and Bourn are just good signings that bring us from 74 to 79 wins and stop the bleeding on fan discontent. Maybe that was enough. I suppose they all have tradeable deals over the next couple years if things go south.

I knew the starting pitching was going to be a black spot but I didn't expect them to be haemorrhaging runs like this. And this is a baaaad Yankees lineup.

I hope Kazmir really does have a comeback year and that McAllister can pitch well otherwise we are going to see plenty of hideous performances.
The offense is already showing signs of being streaky as well.

I seriously turned the game off after the first hour and avoided these boards because I was so upset.

It is waaaayyy too early in the season to be getting this upset about the Indians.

I'm going to flip a coin tonight. Heads I watch the game, tails I decide to catch up on some Netflix TV shows.

Francona must have a brain tumor to have taken this job.

Or its the thump of the Indians hitting the bottom of the standings with a pitching staff that would make a softball player drool.

If Brett Myers takes the field again in an Indians uniform other than one of their minor league clubs you are witnessing epic managerial/organizational incompetence.

Bauer and Carrasco need to spend half a season pitching in Columbus, then bring them up for the second half. They both have good stuff but can't hit their locations consistently; Carrasco because he's just coming back from TJ and Bauer because he's 22 years old. They're not quite there yet.

It looks like Myers is toast, so I suppose I'd bring up Kluber and go with Masterson, Ubaldo, McAlister, Kluber and Kazmir until Carrasco, Bauer and Danny Salazar are ready.

Based on what I've seen so far, that .213 batting average Stubbs put up last year was not a fluke. He also missed a ball in center field he should have caught in the second inning, not that it mattered. I can see Francona eventually moving Swisher to right field, Reynolds to first, and having Aviles or Gomes DH. Or even bring up that Hermida guy from Columbus.

Yes, I'm worried about Kipnis. He gets behind in the count and then goes fishing. There is no way Kuroda will ever throw a pitch in the strike zone with the count 0-2, but sure enough Kipnis flailed away at an 0-2 breaking ball in the dirt and struck out. He hasn't hit since last June. If he doesn't snap out of it Cord Phelps may get a shot.

Chisenhall still lacks good strike zone recognition.

So far the young guys like Chiz, Kipnis, Carrasco, Bauer, and Cody Allen just have not been impressive to say the least.

I still think they can win 70 this year. I revised it down from 80 based on what I've seen of Myers, Bauer, Carrasco and Ubaldo. Plus the fact that Kazmir hurt himself playing catch.

Finally, Robinson Cano hit .524 against the Tribe last year. This year he's 7-for-10 with 3 home runs. I would intentionally walk him every time he comes up for the rest of the season.

I still hope that Francona is the guy that won't watch Kipnis struggle for months and I hate the thought of Reynolds regularly playing first.

I guess I picked the wrong season to stop sniffing glue.

What's the guess on Carrasco's next suspension? I imagine it would be longer than 6 days, given that he didn't seem to learn anything from that suspension. 14? 21?

Yes, it does. Guy's coming back from Tommy John surgery and needs all the innings he can get so that he can get back into game shape and keep developing as a starter.

If the gun was right yesterday, the velocity is back. Next step is the command. 10 cent head or not, guy has the upside to help us later in the year if he can get his command back. Every start he doesn't make hurts him and us in the long run.

I seem to remember this comment being made during the Eric Wedge tenure.....how did most of that turn out?

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a.......

I find it funny that some folks around here crucify the Browns for breathing wrong, but are willing to give the Indians more quarter.
