In the pipeline for OSU basketball

Unread postby danwismar » Thu Apr 04, 2013 2:01 pm

Thought this deserved its own thread....not really NCAA Tourney related...

Lots of talk about what OSU has coming back...including optimism about what Craft, Ross, Thompson and Scott can accomplish.

It's widely assumed (and a lead pipe cinch according to certain informed people) that Thomas is gone...whether or not he's an NBA player at all, let alone a 1st round pick. I agree he's neither an NBA 3 or a 4, and that makes him a player in Europe probably, but a guy can make a nice living in Italy or Greece, even if he has a family to support.

Coming next year to join the Buckeyes are two kids, both of whom can probably help as freshmen...

Mark Loving - http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p= ... id=5020003

Loving is arguably the top player in Ohio...a 6'8" forward from Toledo, who looks to me to have a game similar to LQR...slender and long, with an outside shot and the skills to take it to the rim...more of a 3 than a 4. From the highlights, he looks like he may be a bit more of a defensive presence in the paint than Ross was this year, but again, they're highlight reels...so FWIW...some video...first junior year, then sophomore, then LBJ camp film...

Second is Kameron Williams (so there will be a Cam/Kam Williams on both the football and B-ball teams)

---

Kameron Williams - http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p= ... id=6062414

a 6' 2" shooting guard from Baltimore...a "scorer", who will clearly have to get bigger (165 lbs?) for a Big Ten career, but can put the ball in the hoop, by all reports...video...first from the LeBron camp...then at Nike camp...then a quickie highlight rell

---

Then for 2014-2015, they already have three commits:

http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p= ... bb&yr=2014

Dave Bell, a 6'9" big from Garfield Hts. - http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p= ... id=6753356

3-stars...rated nation's 20th best center as a junior...not well-known nationally due to injuries and having not played as a freshman

video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbjFRrIg_JM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXlBF4LhQJs

---

Jae'sean Tate, a 6' 5", SF from Pickerington (also offered by Michigan)
http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p= ... id=6289882

4-star player...#1 rated player in Ohio in this class...a southpaw...

video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GflRCRgQu2g

lots more video at YouTube

---

Keita Bates-Diop, a 6' 9" PF from Chicago - http://ohiostate.scout.com/a.z?s=145&p= ... id=5506232

also a 4-star, and more of a power forward, with more of a mid-range game...

If they get the Amir Williams we saw a few times in the tourney they are a potential NC team. They also need McDonald to develop into a solid backup or we could see a small lineup a lot next year, which is fine, but to win the B10 and go far in the tourney again they'll need someone to provide rebounding and interior D.

Williams just seems sluggish and barely aware.

I am not saying that he is stoned on the court, but he sure does play like he is baked.

Lot to be excited about there. That 2015 kid from VASJ is ridiculous, Carlton Bragg. OSU is supposed to be way out in front and this kid is supposed to be a one and done lottery pick. I haven't seen him, obviously, but the smart guys say he is pretty good.

Bragg is going to be real hard to land. Kid could give two shits about OSU existing so it is a pure OSU v. UK smack-down.

If Bragg (or any other HS stud) is a consensus lottery pick, and just has to serve his 1 year indentured servitude, how important is it for him to do it at a UK/UNC type school? Why wouldn't a kid like that just play out the string at home for a year? Go to CSU or something. Would it really hurt his draft stock?

No offense to OSU either, but if I'm a lotto pick, and I have to do my basketball residency for a year before entering the lotto, and I want to get the fuck out of dodge, I'm doing it someplace warm near the beach, or close to a big metro like NY or Chicago.
According to my sources CDT farts in the tub and bites the bubbles.
