Kip just misses getting us off to a fast start.

Good to see some nice swings against Moore who, as a left handed strikeout guy, would be our nemesis in years past.

That sac bunt in the first inning nearly made me have an aneurysm.

ZMac looked sharp in the first.

Essentially, Bauer's start tomorrow is a one-shot deal. Goes back down after. Masterson Sunday. Jimenez Monday. Carrasco takes the Kazmir rotation spot, but will pitch Tuesday. Myers Wednesday. McAllister Thursday.

So, it's Masterson-Jimenez-Carrasco-Myers-McAllister until Kazmir comes back.

Cabrera has enough bat control. Can hit & run too.

Anything but give up an out.

Or, yeah, just send Bourn and let him try and take it.

For Moore being a lefty, runners were successful 19/23 times stealing bases last year as well.

I'm not convinced it was a sacrifice.... I think Cabrera was trying to catch them off guard and bunt for a hit.... it was just a terrible bunt!

I'm not either, but it's a low percentage play. Swing away.

Good thing that was the catcher on 3rd. Stubbs's throw was atrocious. Run all day on this OF.

Z-Mac is looking sharp.

He's not a front of the rotation guy but, there's no reason he can't be the modern day Dave Burba - I mean results wise, not "stuff" wise.... he has better stuff than Burba.... but, he could easily be a 200IP, 15W a year guy for many years to come.

K an inning again, but Moore should be close to 70 pitches by the end of the inning.

Somebody please tell Underwood and Manning about how runners successfully stole 19 out of 23 times last season off of Moore.

Do some prep work, guys.

I am convinced McAllister needs to be in the bullpen. He is ALWAYS significantly worse the 2nd/3rd time through a lineup. Once the hitters get a look it's over for him. I bet he can be dominant in the pen, hopefully Bauer and Carasco can force the issue.

He just needs to learn how to pitch. He has good enough stuff to get by.

Doesn't trust his breaking stuff enough. Of starters with 100 IP last season, he threw the 9th-highest percentage of fastballs (70.3%). Needs to pitch backwards sometimes to get hitters off his fastball.

Work in progress. Just has to keep learning.

I like his stuff too. Hopefully Callaway/Tito can get him to work on it. Until then I will just be frustrated by 3 dominant innings followed by :facepalm

The slash lines definitely back up what you're saying. It's a huge jump from 1st time through to 2nd time through. 3rd time through is even higher.

He struggles with two outs in the inning, too.

He's just young and raw. He has a decent slider and a decent curve ball. Just seems hesitant to use them.

Another middle of the plate mistake. He really struggles from the stretch.

Just making excuses for him. Gotta pitch better.

Is it just me or does it seem like when he struggles he tries to just "blow it past the hitter" and overthrow his fastball, missing his spots and not mixing speeds.

This great defense hasn't presented itself in the last three games
I don't know what has been more annoying tonight: McAllister not putting guys away when he's ahead 0-2, or Sam Fuld's fucking anvil head on my screen

Nice to see our hitters making no adjustments to Moore. Stubbs has been fucking gash at the plate, any optimism I had regarding him has dissipated

Hopefully, over 100 pitches, he's now done for the night.

No argument. I knew it was going to be a bad night when they showed a graphic before 1st pitch that showed that we smacked Moore around last year in 2 starts

Moore was on the ropes in the first three innings. Settled down nicely. Good late life on his fastball. Late break on the slider. Good looking young pitcher.

I'd really like to see McAllister get through this inning with a zero. 6 IP 4 R should give us a chance almost every night.

He did deserve a better fate tonight. Aviles botched the grounder, putting a speedster on 1st. Threat of running bothered McAllister and the inning was on from there. Stubbs overthrew his cut-off man on the first run and they had a shot at the plate. Indians had chances early to score and didn't. The Rays really haven't hit many balls hard. They've been well placed.

This game should be 2-2 or 3-1, not 4-0. But, that's how it goes.

One of those nights. Brantley's double just inches foul, Rays have a couple doubles inside the line. Grounds out.

Two hits. One didn't leave the infield. Doubt we see too many of those games from this lineup.

Now 25 unearned runs in 27 career starts for McAllister. An asterisk because seven came in one start last season.

A couple thoughts:

1. Zach McCalister, who has "mediocre at best" written all over him, has soo much more life on his fastball than Ubaldo. Which is why Ubaldo will still stink this year. I don't care what kind of things the brass want to make up such as "pitch pace" and all the other bullshit. Moore was throwing an "easy" 95. Ubaldo used to as well - with a ton of life. Now he's a GD breaking ball pitcher with pedestrian life on his 92er.

2. If bunting with your number two hitter - in the first - with Zach McCalister pitching, ain't about the stupidest GD play in the sport, than I don't know what is. I remember when they used to do this religiously when Vizquel was hitting two - and it hurt them, as it would anyone. Your two hitter should have two qualifications, 1. He should be able to hit. and 2. He should be able to hit behind the runner. And what the F did you pick up Bourn for if you're gonna do this shit?

3. This team...better than last year I suppose, but Christ, you've got at least 40% of the starting staff as painful to watch as Carmona, and you've got a team that's gonna go thru stretches where they are seemingly incapable of moving runners cause they can't make contact..... It's gonna be tough watching even if they do well.

I think McAllister pitched very well for the most part. A couple of mistakes on guys that were down 0-2 and he crumpled a bit after the Aviles error with 2 out, but overall he threw a good game.

I want to see 3-4 more starts from Ubaldo before I make a judgement. His first start last year was excellent and we all know how that season ended for him.
