Kazmir DL bound?

Unread postby British_Pharaoh » Tue Apr 02, 2013 5:44 pm

According to Hoynes' latest tweet Kazmir is to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday which will determine whether he is to spend some time on the DL.

Kazmir strained an abdominal muscle during Monday's workout and might require a trip to the 15-day disabled list. By adding him to the roster now, Cleveland would be able to promote a starter who was optioned to Triple-A at the end of Spring Training.

So, Hagadone gets screwed by Kazmir's injury and is sent down.

My guess is it wouldn't be Bauer if Kazmir had to hit the DL - they want him to work on what he's working on in AAA.

I'd guess Kluber for a spot start (until Little CCs suspension is done) followed by Carrasco just staying on the roster and taking the spot full time.

Kazmir said he felt fine after a BP today but, he's gone back to Cleveland to be further examined.

Francona has said they're going to play it conservatively and Kazmir will not start on Saturday.

Interestingly, Bauer was scheduled to start opening day for Columbus on Friday but, Joe Martinez has now been listed as the scheduled starter, so it would appear Bauer is the front runner.

Pretty surprised by this... the Indians officially named Trevor Bauer the starter for Saturday.

Figured they'd wait until June when the Super Two deadline would have passed.

Nothing to say that it will be anything more than a spot start and then Carrasco takes over - that way Super 2 doesn't really become a consideration until if/when he's in the bigs full time.

Bauer's still to got stuff to work on at AAA, so I'd be surprised if they gave him a long look at this point.

Could quite simply be a case of they feel, of the available options, Bauer gives them the best chance of winning that one game on Saturday...... Can't argue with that I suppose.

That's true. I'm sure they're well aware of his contract situation and wouldn't add a fourth arbitration year for just one spot start.

Kazmir with 5 strong innings in his rehab tonight - 5H, 0BB, 5K and allowed just an unearned run.

Puts him in line to start for the Indians on Saturday.

Slick!

With him Masterson and McAllister (and if Myers has set himself right after his last start) we may have a rotation to contend with

Just for the record, Carrasco followed Kazmir and pitched the final 4 innings of almost perfect ball...... his lone runner allowed was on a, yep you guessed it, HBP!!

I should be more pessimistic with experience but there it is.

If Kazmir does pitch on Saturday, might as well be another minor league start. He'd face the Astros.
