I don't think anyone could have authored a fiction book more interesting and crazy than that. The time on the raft alone is a good book and a story of incredible preservance. Add the work camp to that, and you have one of the greatest stories ever written.

When he got transferred to the new camp, and The Bird was there to greet him, I almost collapsed. I couldn't believe it. I kept waiting to read "and then, tragically, Zamperini passed away." And that despite knowing he was still alive.

After I finished the book the 1st time, I asked myself if I could forgive my tormentors the way he did. I don't know that I could. What an incredible person.

And the life the guy ending up living after. Amazing he is still alive at 96 years old given what his body and mind were put through. I would have caved like a little beeyotch before even getting to the Bird. Mad respect. Chalk one up for Billy Graham.

I'm reading a long novel called "Shantaram" it's about some Ausie ex-con who busts out of prison and imigrates to India via New Zealand...900+ pages I'm on page 300...so far it's damn good.

Interesting. There's been a movie at some stage of production since like 1960; Zamperini used to get checks every year from one of the big studios (Universal I think) that the movie was not made. They sold the rights to someone else, and then someone else bought it...been a loooong time coming with no real work done on it for years. After the book came out, there was some more interest in a movie but as Louie himself said, if they want him to contribute to it they'd better hurry!

Finished Lone Survivor. Good read, amazing story of survival. It was also fascinating to hear his inside look at Hell Week and the other training involved on the road to becoming a SEAL. But the book read kinda choppy and I found myself laboring through parts of it. Ironically, the parts of the book I found the most interesting were the beginning parts about the SEAL training and the very end where he talked about what happened in the year or two after he returned back home to America. And while I agree with Luttrel's characterization of the liberal media in America, he harped on it a little too much in this book. I just struggle with non-fiction in general. I did love Unbroken and Devil in the White City though.

Am 30% into Defending Jacob, which several people recommended to me. I cannot remember being so engrossed into a book a third of the way in. Highly recommend.
