Spring Training Game Thread

Unread postby dazindiansfanuk » Fri Feb 22, 2013 4:45 pm

Because spring stats mean EVERYTHING, I figured I'd start a thread to casually discuss what's happening in the games.

Game 1 today...... Gio Soto gives up 5 runs to Choo and the Reds in the top 1st.

Bot 1st, Swisher RBI single gets Tribe on the board.

That's where we stand at the moment.

EDIT: Brantley RBI double and Santana RBI single make it 5-3 bot 1st.

8 runs in a 45-minute first inning. Might as well get used to this.

God, I missed hearing Hammy call home runs. Winter sucks.

Almost listened to a game from last year because I was desperate for Hammy calls. I was grinning ear to ear in the 3rd inning. My husband was groaning and rolling his eyes. We're been married 38 years in spite of my baseball addiction (it pays to be a really good cook).

Yeah! Mike McDade! As my buddy just told me, you can't win 'em all unless you win the first one.

Because it's Dusty Baker and he's an asshole.

McDade got a knock. Does he push out Giambi? I think Giambi is a lock for the squad, though he may be a bench coach if the kid produces this spring.

Funny.

On Giambi- I am really curious about that guy. I considered him to just be an interesting story for spring. I never really thought he was a serious roster candidate but I guess I was wrong.

March 17 is the first one. March 11 on tape delay on MLB Network.

Little late notice, but today's game is on STO and MLB Network.

The box score looks OK for Ubaldo through 3 but, to the eye, he's still all over the place and up in the zone.

The Brewers running on him at ease too and the trademarked run scoring wild pitch!

He wasn't bad out of the windup. From the stretch, he was all over the place. He struggled with the bottom of the order and was throwing them breaking balls. He hit the #9 hitter once and walked him.

Brantley saved him at least 1 run with a diving catch. Would have scored a run and put 2nd & 3rd with 2 out.

He threw a couple real good two-strike out pitches, one a slider and one a splitter. Overall, a meh outing. Something we've grown accustomed to when he pitches "well".

Not sure this one was all that Arizona-climate-aided, Brantley just drove a 2-run double over Trout's head to CF.

Bauer's fastball command all over the place. Overthrowing it at times. McClelland has a small zone, but Bauer's not going to get the benefit of the doubt. Has thrown some decent breaking balls. Having a hard time repeating his release point.

Giving up some deep fly balls, which isn't a good recipe in Arizona, but he's making guys use the big part of the yard, so there's that.

Has shaken off catcher Brian Jeroloman several times.

Still looks like a work in progress, but you can see the potential.

Lonnie Chisenhall with a no doubter off a lefty. Beautiful short swing.

Scott Kazmir on the bump on MLB Network. First four batters reach (3 x 1B, 2B). 2nd & 3rd with no out, Kazmir went K, pop out, K to limit the damage.

Sitting 91-92. Touched 93. Nice to see a broadcast with a gun.

Threw a lot of strikes.

Good to see Kazmir struggle and face some ABs with RISP and limit the damage. That's big.

Jason Giambi proves he can still punish 89 mph mistakes.
