Also, Bama is going to close with another 5 Star DT from Texas (since Mack Brown sucks so bad he can't keep anyone in state right now).

Secondary recruiting turned out OK for the Bucks:

#11, #12, and #13 rated cornerbacks (Apple, Burrows, Conley)

#2, #20, and #29 safeties (Bell, Thompson, Lee)

(Scout rankings)

Already have one stud in the fold for 2014 in Webb

Bucks have just four 3-stars (Scout) in the class.

One is the punter. One (Sprinkle) was the Ohio Defensive Player of the Year.

Gardner (an OG who camped here twice) and Worley (the Glenville kid that they LOVE)

Here's the class as of now (with only Elliott, and the punter Townsend(?) still to confirm)

Maybe the biggest "news" of the whole recruiting season is that, by nearly every ranking service, three of the top six classes in the country are in the Midwest (ND, UM, OSU)

I realize that this is a "rich get richer" development, and the rest of the B1G continues to suck at recruiting elite players, but still it's an interesting side story.

I'm really encouraged that OSU UM and ND look like they are all actually trying to play big boy football. I would like nothing better than for The Game to be a real event again and for our section of the country to not be a joke any more.

To me, it is part of a shift where only the SEC and the B1G are going to matter pretty soon. Every power school outside of us, scUM, and ND that isn't in the SEC is dying pretty fast. Look at USC, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma. We'll see if we can keep up over the next few years, but get used to us or ND or (Gods forbid) scUM in the NCG against the SEC champ for the next few years.

USC has been terrible for the last 4 years. They've had solid looking classes throughout. I would guess that USC's problems may not be related to recruiting.

I would agree they aren't going anywhere; they are staying right where they are; mediocrity.

And USC is going to fire Lane Kiffin and all will be right with the world.

Similar to the fact that Texas isn't going to let Mack Brown keep ruining that program.

Acting like only the B1G and SEC will matter is just hilariously wrong.

I'm actually kind of shocked Mack got another go for this year; there was wild discontent after the previous season, and I got the sense that it was a put-up-or-shutup year for him. Couldn't even dominate his own watered down conference, anymore.

just 11 kids in this class though. They've been hemorrhaging recruits in recent weeks. Word is that Kiffin could not be alienating USC administration people any worse if he were trying. Can't believe they'll make a move to replace him before the coming season though.

Nice thing about this Scout "commits" page is the drop-down box that lets you flip to the class of any FBS school:

2013 is the last year of their scholarship reductions right? So they stick with him through this year then start fresh with a new guy when they're back to full capacity.

I'll agree that those two programs will most certainly be capable of being righted and getting back to the top. But it is going to take some time. Probably 2-4 years, given that neither team is going to fire their coach until the end of this coming year at the earliest. So in the near future, neither will matter, which is all I was saying.

Epitropolous can punt, but you'd hate to see them resort to that. You'd think they would bring in at least one preferred walk-on to try out.

Gerd at Ozone joking earlier that Meyer and OSU may just figure they don't plan on punting anymore.

Here is what I've pieced together on PunterGate (shout out to Lars for that one):

1) With Dontre, Clark and Bell OSU will end up at 83 signees assuming EZ-E and Punter both sign. This means someone needs to be pushed out of the program by fall (and I'm pretty sure that total includes Jamie Wood being gone, which isn't for sure yet).

2) Punter of choice was hand-picked by Meyer and committed in June

3) Punter of choice was not looking around and previously had an offer from Bama to WALK ON

4) The Orlando Sentinel just dropped an article very strongly inferring that OSU either yanked the kids school or is trying to get him to grayshirt or walk on for a year.

5) Meyer is cold

Typical of signing day that there is a 15-page thread over at Scout about the Johnny Townsend situation.

This may be less about the kid having second thoughts, and more about OSU not having any spots left. They may not have expected to land all three of Wilson, Clark and Bell at the finish line, and word is that if Elliott commits (and he's going to) they would be over the 82 man limit for total scholarships. That number isn't really crucial till fall (August) ball begins, but I'm sure they don't even want the appearance of oversigning. It would also make 26 in this class...not a real problem, but one over where they ideally wanted to be.

Townsend's family has acknowledged the confusion over whether or not there was a commitable offer on the table from OSU, but last thing I read was that they now say nothing has changed there, and he does have a valid offer to join the OSU class. Also hearing there will not be a formal public announcement at all for him...they will just sign and fax the letter to whomever...OSU or Bama, presumably. Saban has got to be in a similar numbers crunch, BTW.

Saban just got a four star to agree to grayshirt, so yeah he's in the same damn boat.

And the 26 doesn't matter with early enrollees (same was UM is at 27).

Not sure I would be interested in punting for OSU anymore either. Not sure 'Bama would be me 2nd choice, but whatever, I think they will punt more than OSU in the coming years.

EZ-E is at five.

And yeah, Mora is killing it at UCLA, which isn't surprising at all.

I expect that Zeke will sign. Everything I am reading is pointing that way. That said, I was completely COMPLETELY wrong about the way this class closed thus far.

Maybe I am just used to the Buckeyes coming in 2nd on signing day?

Meyer and Drayton basically said EZ-E is singing during the presser. If he doesn't they'll be a shocked as you.

Was the second clearest thing I got from that presser, outside of the fact that Meyer admitted to having made mistakes in whose schollies he pulled in this class.

And I personally cannot ever remember OSU landing two kids at a All-Star Games and two kids on NSD day. Traditionally these days are epic failures.

Wonder which schollies he was talking about. BTW I have only had about 2 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours, so I am a bit slow right now. I am sure it will make sense as soon as you throw some names out; Gibson maybe?

Well he did admit to almost not offering Lisle, which would have sucked.

And Gibson certainly does come to mind, although Clark is the same player but faster.

Dontre Wilson's comments today were interesting too. He said Meyer just acted like he was always in the class and showed him Harvin Film, never any actual OSU film. This was followed up by Meyer and Herman bitchin about the lack of broken tackles last year.

Fucking Philly Brown.
