It’s unclear whether Kelly’s agent, David Dunn, has managed to set up a tug-o-war between the boyhood friends who are pursuing the same coach. Browns CEO Joe Banner and Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie grew up together and then worked as colleagues for a generation in Philly.

As we pointed out last night on Twitter (Rick Reilly may have been first, though), a sense was percolating through league circles that Dunn had done with Kelly what agent Bob LaMonte had done with Andy Reid, feeding to a willing and aggressive media member or two the idea that Kelly was close to a deal with the Browns in order to increase the sense of urgency for any other interested teams.

Not a big fan of PFT, but this makes a bit of sense.

I was on board with Kelly from the moment it became a story, and I'll be pissed if we don't get him.

Ken Whisenhunt: Remember he took a mediocre team with a great QB to the Super Bowl. So again, we're back to needing a QB.

Also, Whisenhunt reportedly still holds a grudge against Pittsburgh for not giving him the HC job, so every game against the Pukes is going to be personal.

The Bidwells were just as bad of owners as Jammies, so I think if Haslem is even a quarter better than the Bidwells and Jammies, we could see some success.

The Problem with Arians always was not being able to score enough points. Look at the talent P-burgh had plus the QB. There's no excuse for that team not scoring 30+ points a week. That's why he was fired.

McCoy I'd be fine with. Arians is the 35yr old mediocre MLB player who has a big free agent year and someone is dumb enough to sign him to multiple years for big dollars.

At least McCoy has an upside and over the past few years he's actually run an offense in whick Orton, Tebow and Manning have all been successful.

I didn't think it would come to this because of the whole NCAA investigation thing....but you could make a case it'd be wise to wait a year - cause next year there will be jobs available with team holding much better QB's. And I know Romo and Newton have their respective issues, but I'd rather work from square one with those guys than Foles, Weedman or Brady Quinn.
