INF Russ Canzler re-claimed from Toronto. RHP Jeanmar Gomez designated for assignment.

Per Matt Underwood.

It's an insignificant move but, it's also a bit of a strange one.

You have to think Gomez has more value to the Tribe than Canzler. Also, adding another fringe guy to the roster the day before you're going to need to make another two spots (Swisher & Myers)free on the 40-man roster is just a little odd.

You gotta wonder what it must feel like to be picked up by an organization that didn't think you were good enough to keep around a week ago. He probably shouldn't go house hunting in Cleveland just yet.

Hoynes has Canzler as DH contender

Just a thought...probably unlikely, but players being DFA can be traded, right? I seem to recall hearing every time a player is DFA that they have "10 days to be released, traded," something to that effect. Maybe its a precursor to a trade to clear up some of the roster crunch? I.E., they were going to part with Gomez anyway, and doing it this way now frees up a spot to get Canzler back? Again, not likely. Just wondering, because it is strange timing.

I've seen others penciling in Canzler as DH also. Reading it on the internet means very little though.

Yankees claimed INF/OF Russ Canzler off waivers from the Indians.
Canzler has now gone from the Indians to the Blue Jays back to the Indians and now to the Yankees in the span of two weeks. The 26-year-old batted just .269/.299/.398 in 97 plate appearances last season but has fared well at Triple-A and could conceivably win a bench spot

Wow. At least he's been able to watch all of this from home so far.
