And it keeps getting worse.

18 kids dead, 26 people in all so far. Every time you look the toll goes higher.

This is a sick, twisted, reeking fucking world.

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A lone gunman killed 26 people at an elementary school here, including 18 children, in a terrifying early Friday morning shooting spree.

The Associated Press and local media reported the shooter, an unidentified 20-year-old adult male, was also dead inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. A second person was in custody and undergoing questioning. Two handguns were recovered at the scene. Mayor Mark Boughton said several victims had been taken to local hospitals.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were escorted from the school by teachers. Some witnesses reported of up to 100 shots. There were unconfirmed reports that the assailant, dressed in military style assault gear, shot most of the victims in a kindergarten classroom.

A motherfucking kindergarten classroom? My God... I mean what do you say to that and how is anyone deranged enough to think that through and carry it out?

Do parents of 7 yr olds out there have to talk to their kindegartners about what to do if a deranged individual walks into their room and starts executing their friends and classmates while they're napping on their mats? I mean, who would have that conversation and why would you have to? When is the right time for that talk? Is there ever a right time for that talk?

It's going to move to a total lock down of all schools. We have an officer here everyday, as do all the middle and high schools in the city.
But there are literally over 60 doors on the first floor. Some have to remain open because we have portable classrooms outside.

It would take 12 officers to properly patrol the campus. Add in metal detectors, new locks/ doors and people to work the entrances and you're talking about adding 30% to a school's budget.

We've lost something like 15 million from our budget over the past 4 years.

We know for sure guns won't be outlawed, so what's another reasonable solution?

I'll be the guy had a schizophrenic breakdown and decided this was his way of getting back at the world. Word is he killed his dad at home then went to the school where his mother worked, killed her, and shot up her classroom.

We've been treating mentally unstable people in this country as disposable garbage for decades. That, more than anything else, leads to things like this.

Yes, he was. Right after he said a line about the victims being several 5-10 year-old children. He had to stop for several seconds then when he began speaking again he had to wipe away a tear.

1,000 of miles away and every single teacher in our building had tears in their eyes when the news trickled in.

Takes one sick MFer to do that to a bunch of kids that young.

My principal and I were talking about security after school. No easy solution to this problem, cuz in all honesty, in just about every elem around....a sick bastard like that will be able to get all they can eat until somebody finally is able to stop them, or they off themselves. Unless you go to metal detectors and armed security which will cost millions for already cash strapped school districts.

I raced home to hug my little guys after school......my heart is ripped out thinking about those poor little students and their parents.

Turned on WTAM at my desk when I caught wind of this. Fox News was on the coverage - woulda been better off with random Twitter. Unbelievable what they threw at the wall in an hour. " Guy was 20. No 25. There are two shooters. No just one. We got his picture. No, that's not him. And on and on.....

Gotta 5 year old in Kindergartern......just came back from a life-changing weekend at St. Jude's hospital in Memphis where I met some parents of young kids that didn't make it....and now there will be 50 some odd more parents with that eternal look of sadness in their eyes I saw over the weekend...

Can't imagine life if my kid was taken that way.

Just got off the phone with our 31 year old daughter a few minutes ago. I've always told our kids I'm indifferent about being a grandma. Told our daughter today she had better not bring an innocent baby into today's world. Too many crazies out there doing too much evil.

We're about 1 1/2 hours away from the school (always stop at a diner about a mile from it when we travel from our home in MA to anywhere south and west) and the latest report on the local sites states the shooter used his Mom's guns (and his brother's ID) when he went on his rampage. Question some of the guns Mom owned, but even if all she had was a hunting rifle what could have stopped the wacko from wreaking havoc? Bet if he was determined enough he could find a recipe for a pipe bomb online and toss it into the same classroom.

As a parent I don't even want to think about IF this happened at my childrens school. It's unimaginable. I know last night and today these guys have a little more leeway than normal

How awful is it for these parents of the victims to have to walk back into their home after all this only to see holiday decorations and wrapped presents they were going to place under the tree knowing that the holidays will NEVER be the same.

My heart goes out to the first responders and what they must have felt/still be feeling after walking into that classroom yesterday.
