Browns' Playoff Scenarios

Unread postby LarsHancock » Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:17 pm

Need CIN and PIT to lose 2 of 3 each
Need to win out
Need NYJ to lose one and BUF to lose one as well

IF PHL, DAL, CLE, TEN and SEA win next week

and if CLE and PIT win week 16

then CLE vs. PIT is for a playoff spot week 17

Here's an easy to remember scenario:
If the home team wins every game going forward, except CLE over DEn and PIT, then we go to the playoffs.

Note there are other scenarios, but with a lot of help this week, it almost becomes realistic*

* until you realize Denver is going to kick the shit out of us.

Could see us beating the Skins and going up on Denver before allowing them to go 98 yards against the prevent D to send it into overtime, only to lose on a Karlis FG.

Browns can technically make the playoffs at 7-8-1 if PIT and CIN tie as well as us tying DEN or WAS

Browns can also make playoffs if Cincinnati's plane drops out of the sky en route to Philley, the roof at Cowboys Stadium collapses on the Steelers, and the Muslims explode a small nuclear device at midfield during the Giants-Ravens game.

Technically, the annihilation of the entire Ravens' squad wouldn't help our playoff chances.

But I like the positive message you're portraying to keep in the spirit of the thread!

Maybe not this season, but...

Yeah...that's a nice thought to have before sleeping. Envisioning Ray Lewis's charred remains lying in some field somewhere in northern Maryland makes me warm and happy :thumb up:

We're not beating Denver. They'll be playing for HFA, and they have God at QB.

That actually might be their best chance, because they're not winning out.

I think 6-10, if RG3 doesn't play 7-9. Yes I think the Steeler game is the most probable win.

Steelers are over rated, extremely beatable and sweepable. Skins are in trouble without RG3, and that doesn't even count their D.

The rest of the scenario is much more likely than winning out, but I hope they can let the possibility ride one more week. If they win against the Skins and one of PIT or CIN lose, they can carry this hallucination almost to Xmas.

I've seen nothing from either the Bengals or Steelers that convinces me they can't both lose again this week.

Or SHUR replacing Richardson with Monterio and getting stripped at the 2 by a journeyman DB.

How about Weeds gets hurt on the first play Sunday , we back door are way into the playoffs with Colt, we blow a huge lead and lose in the wild card game. Colt then rides a wave of fan support into 2013, winning a dog & pony show QB competition in trading camp, and leads the Browns to a gritty 5-11 season, all while putting out his own brand of mustered.

Am I forgetting anything.... Oh yeah in the midst of that 5-11 2013 season Jimmy Haslem III dies, and the team falls into the hands of his Cricket loving water-head of a son Jimmy Haslem IV.

I think it's just as likely that a purple unicorn eats Donald Trump on Thursday as Colt beating the Horsies in Denver.

And, yes, I get the reference - Holcomb was better than Colt will ever be too. Frogs rain from the sky when Colt throws for 300, much less 400+ in a playoff game.

How's this scenario:

Weeds has a terrible first half against the Skins, and we trail at halftime 35-3. He has a slight hammy tweak, so Colt comes in and leads us back to victory, 41-38.

The next week Shurmur goes back to Weeds and he has a subpar first half again. Charlie Frye vs PIT esque first quarter, Browns in a big hole and Colt comes back in and leads us to victory in Denver, but in a not altogether inspiring manner, 19-17.

All week there is a QB controversy and Shurmur goes with COLT for the win-and-in game vs. PIT. Colt performs altogether Colt-like (which is pretty below average) and we eke out a win, 9-7. PLAYOFFS!

Colt then becomes the Trent Dilfer of this team. Game manages while the defense, which is now on fire, takes over games. He amasses a 59.5 QB rating for the playoffs and we almost win the Super Bowl because the defense allows 6 PPG for the four playoff games, except of course we lose it due to some freak play like a blocked punt with a minute left.

Shurmur's offense is a failure, Weeds is a train wreck, and Colt is almost a hero but not really because he's the terrible QB we know him to be.

OTOH, if PIT & CIN both win this week, it's all done (since it guarantees one of them finishes 9-7). Might be the best thing to happen, if only to stop the demented* from seriously yammering "PLAYOFFS!!"

*Then again, if both LOSE + Browns win, how many of us join the ranks of the deluded? :hide:

I doubt many seriously think the Browns will get in. It's just nice to fantasize.

All it takes is one of them to lose and the Browns to win and we can enjoy this delusion deep into December. Been 5 years since that was even possible.

I'd love a 'win and you're in' scenario going into the Steelers game, but it's going to take some effort to get the next 2 wins under our belt.

The Phily and Dallas game sting even more now, if we miss out on the Postseason by a game
