Cut yesterday by the Eagles only 1 year removed from a monster 18 sack season that was even better than that number sounds - he wreaked absolute havoc. He only has 5.5 this year, but then again, the Eagles have been a mess. So...

I'm assuming he was brought in to Philly by Banner. I'm also assuming his contract was front-loaded and he won't be overwhelmingly expensive. CMIIW on either of those assumptions.

The Browns have a high enough waiver spot (looks like 4th-5th to me) to be able to claim him. It would basically kickstart the upcoming offseason, as pass rusher is one of if not the biggest hole on this team. Claiming Babin would allow them to not have to reach for a pass rusher in the draft (unless pass rusher was BPA anyway) or throw big FA dollars at a say, Cliff Avril.

I know many think of him as a one trick pony, but his one trick is one the Browns sorely need. So what do ya think?

I am under the impression he works best as part of that wide 9 package, which is how he was used in Tennessee and Philly.

Unless we are transforming to the wide 9, he might not be the best fit, IMO.

B. Because they are shit canning the wide 9 and he is not effective w/out it so better to save the $2M.

My first thought was, "he'd look really nice paired up on end with Sheard"

My second three thoughts:

1. They just brought in Parker and Rucker, and while not superstars, they are holding up their end of the bargain on that side of the line for a bargain.

2. He's probably not a fit for our 4-3

3. He'd be less motivated to play for us that he was for Philly, which would be disastrous.

Rather put Jones over there, or stick with what we have and draft a DB/LB.

Hell, I might even be in favor of throwing that pick at another QB, if there's still one out there that can wow on tape/combine. No idea where the actual problems on this team are, since HMIC is #1 on the list.

Rolondo McClain was cut by the Raiders.

Worth the flier? An under preforming turd so far, but as long as the injury issue is clear a new start could land someone a good LB.

Loved him coming out. Not sure going from Oakland (pot) to Cleveland (fire) would do much for his issues. Probably needs a respected organization with stability to have a chance at salvaging what he could have been.

Because I could care less about who they bring in for the rest of this lost season. Yay, help out lame duck Coach win so he still gets fired and we get a worse draft pick.

So, long term... Babin, nice player, depends on the system, getting older (32), has a contract through 2015 at about 5 to 6 per year... kind of glad they didn't get him on waivers. If JAX releases him during the offseason, I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a short-term contract provided he fits the system of the Next Guy.

McClain... young, contract through 2014, 4 mil next year and 5 mil in 2014. Problem child so far and not overly productive, but would certainly be an interesting get especially if Haslam has his sights set squarely on Nick Saban. Assault charges on him were dropped, so no legal issues to worry about, just attitude. Wouldn't hate picking him up to see what he might become in the next 2 years.

Much better prospect than Babin long-term.

Browns are apparently 5th in the waiver order, but the team right ahead of them is Oakland, so they are essentially 4th behind KC, JAX, and (amazingly) Philly.

9 mill is steep. I think the guy can play (assuming the foot thing is good).

Hate to see him in NE killing fools and the Browns could have had him.
