Let's move our way toward the guts of the matter and ask what happens without Toussaint (as poor a year as he had) in the lineup and with Gardner/Robinson in the backfield.

You're likely looking at a ton of misdirection and an attempt to confuse the second 7 for the OSU defense.

It bothers me a bit because Boren, while willing, is playing his 5th or 6th game and can get lost at times and Shazier has shown the propensity to get caught out of position as well. I have to believe UM goes with a lot of misdirection to try and capitalize on that and get GGardner Robinson into a secondary that has made missed tackles an art form.

I think UM tries to go Wisconsin route on the Buckeyes and shows a lot of 8/9 man fronts to try and bottle up Braxton. They're nowhere near as good at it as Wisconsin but that's likely to be there plan. Miller is going to have to hit a few throws down field and Hyde will need to have a good day inside IMO.

Am I off here? Anyone see it a lot differently?

I actually think losing Fitz helps scUM a little, bear with me. Touissant is not a great RB, I was never concerned about him as a contributor. Now we get a bunch of unknowns. Unknowns are probably better than he is and we know less of what to expect.

If I were game planning against tOSU's D, I would send my outside receivers deep and try to hit one or two on Howard, while sending Roby's WR deep just to get Roby downfield. I would then attack OSU's D short, with a possession based passing game, if you keep the routes short it nullifies any advantage OSU's DL may have in the trenches. Additionally, the guys on the outside give such a big cushion that there is room out there to facilitate this short passing game. Once tOSU switches to zone to take away the short stuff you can hit some of those intermediate short routes and probably run the ball a little better. Indiana laid a very good road map to gouging this OSU D by attacking its weaknesses.

If I were game planning against the O I would stack the box play 2 spies and dare someone other than Hyde or Miller to beat you. They won't, at least not the way that Miller is currently constituted as a QB. Either our WRs cannot get seperation or Miller can't see them, either way you should be OK if you make Miller beat you with his arm until he proves that he can. One thing I would like to see the OSU O do is vary the running game a little better. They get caught in this rut where every play is either a slower developing option play/designed QB run or a designed RB run. There is a delay in the draw and option game that allows time for the D to react (some) and as the D anticipates the reads and slows down their "flow" they become more effective against the draw. You could catch them napping with some well placed dives and ISO.

I know, I really should do more but that Catholic charity that I sit on the board for has just been eating up my time. I mean I guess I could be running around posting on scUM websites or some other team that I hate just to try to make other people unhappy thereby making myself feel better about my standing in life. Maybe that would cover the whole in my heart over turning down MIT's Sloan School of Business because I got more money from another top 15 business school. That was an ugly coverage breakdown. I am not sure what they were supposed to be doing, but I am pretty sure that there was supposed to be more than 2 defenders for the 3 WRs and that let the deep guy go past you was not part of the coverage.

Buckeyes would be winning this game by 3-4 TDs if they played with some discipline today. 2 long TDs on blown defensive plays and a TD that was only scored because the drive was extended 2X by a muff and a personal foul after a 3rd down stop.

That replay of the TD run shows exactly why I hate Christian Bryant. He makes no effort at all to wrap, and by drilling Robinson he ends up knocking over Travis Howard who is actually trying to wrap up.
